About Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre

The YMCA at Boroondara is made up of four leisure and aquatic facilities in the municipality, owned by the City of Boroondara and managed by the YMCA. The four facilities, represented as the Boroondara Leisure and Aquatic Facilities (BLAF), work as a group to achieve key results areas agreed in consultation with the City of Boroondara.

The redevelopment of the Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre was completed in April 2014. The centre features a 50m heated outdoor pool (open year round), a 20m indoor warm water pool, fitness program rooms and crèche facilities, a large 780sq metre gym and café. HALC focuses on providing classes including yoga and Pilates, warm water exercise and flexible program space to accommodate growing local interest in general health opportunities.

Key Elements of the Role

Health and Wellness Professionals will work toward maintaining a solid connection to the centre, its direction and connection to the client as indicated by the performance indicators below

  • Minimum requirements
    1. Maintain a suitable combination of PT and Group Fitness as negotiated with the Health & Wellness Coordinator
    2. 2 gym floor shifts per week or;
    3. Maintain a minimum of 1 Group Fitness/Adrenaline/High Performance/Community Programs per week
    4. Maintain a minimum of 2 PT sessions per week and;
  • Work as a team member to provide the very best health and fitness experience for our members through positive and engaging interactions
  • Ensure all equipment and the facility itself is kept to agreed standards of quality, maintenance and presentation
  • Deal with OH&S matters immediately by firstly eliminating or minimising the risk if safe to do so. Report immediately any matters that require further attention
  • Ensure members conform with gym etiquette guidelines
  • Attend staff meetings and staff training as required

Selection Criteria

  • Conducting Personal Success plan appointments (BioScan sessions, Checking and program reviews)
  • Waiting for and escorting members to their appointments
  • Conduct 15 minute workout sessions and introductory sessions to small groups of health club members
  • Encourage patrons to participate in Group Fitness as appropriate
  • Discuss Personal Training with members and provide this as a suitable option to enhance members results
  • Utilise time on floor to develop PT client list to maintain a minimum amount of PT sessions per week
  • Drive and develop participation of Adrenaline sessions.
  • Providing supervision and advice on programs for users
  • Supervision of all Health Club Users, giving technical advice, support and encouragement
  • Support of membership retention and marketing strategies
  • Complete monitoring and evaluation checklists and sign checklists for acceptance of conforming products where appropriate

Qualifications

  • Working With Children Check 
  • Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)
  • Certificate III in Fitness
  • Certificate IV in Personal Training
  • Current registration with a fitness body
  • HLTFA301B Apply first aid or equivalent
  • HLTCPR201A Perform CPR or equivalent
