Description

The Western Force is a professional rugby union team based in Western Australia competing in the elite Super Rugby Pacific and Super W competitions.

As an organisation, the Force has a proud history, having been formed in 2004 and making its Super Rugby debut in 2006 at its original home, Subiaco Oval. Backed by Tattarang, the club operates at the highest level of sporting professionalism in Western Australia and has a strong presence nationally and internationally.

Duties of this role include, but are not limited to:

1. Preparing a yearly operation plan for the season, in conjunction with key Academy Staff and the GM Rugby

  • Academy aims/objectives in line with the WF strategic plan which includes monthly and weekly schedule.
  • Continue to grow the player development program within the Western Force in line with the Six Pillars of development which includes management of staff and players within the following areas – Technical, Tactical, Physical, Mental, Nutrition and Personal Development

2. Working closely with Rugby WA (RWA)

  • To manage and coordinate the funding policies between the WF and RWA. 
  • To manage, coordinate and oversee the U16 and U19 Rugby teams programs.
  • Develop a working relationship, engagement, and alignment with RWA DOR on depth chart and identification of WA pathway players.
  • Collaboration of pathways programming and alignment between WF and RWA.
  • Manage the relationship with RWA on the Schools competition – strategically.

3. Manage the financials of the Academy in conjunction with the General Manager of Finance 

4. Maintain accurate recording and reporting;

  • Accurately compile and maintain all relevant team documentation.
  • Keep accurate statistics of games, scores, player details
  • Keep players PDP database up to date.
  • Regular one on ones with GM Rugby to provide updates on all logistical and operational matters.
  • Together with TiD Coordinator, keep depth charts and player statistics up to date
  • Submit a written post season report of the Academy players to GM Rugby, as well as regular updates of progress 
  • Regular catch up's with direct reports, as well as quarterly performance reviews.

5. Manage the operational needs of the Academy

  • Work with the Logistics Coordinator to ensure training fields are booked and maintained to an adequate standard.
  • Ensure meeting rooms, facilities are all booked for the Academy operationally
  • Participate in regular forums to ensure a consistent approach to representative selection and style of play and coaching.
  • Develop an understanding of relevant Tournament Manuals for competitions participated in.
  • Identify the appropriate key people and ensure that relationships are developed, providing a solid support structure for the Academy player, including but not limited to, liaising with family, parents, coaches, schools, mentors, agents, medical staff and WF and RWA if required.
  • Supervise team outfitting including managing the merchandise relationship & interface with the Commercial Team on any concerns. Including any uniform or clothing requirements.
  • Organise a comprehensive player induction with PDM in accordance with the collective agreement.

6. Player Welfare

  • Arrange appropriate player accommodation in Perth with Player Coordinator.
  • Supervise & enforce player discipline and behaviour.
  • Ensure injured players are provided adequate care and attention.
  • Ensure personal matters are handled discretely and professionally.
  • Treat all players/partners/family fairly and equally.
  • Create a professional environment within which all players can operate.
  • Always ensure the safety of the players.
  • Develop a team safety plan and liaise with the relevant staff.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in high performance sports management
  • Experience with Player development
  • Experience coaching at 1st XV level or higher
  • Minimum of 4-5 years experience in a high performance environment
  • Knowledge of player contracting
  • Experience with working with Player Agents
