Description

Football Queensland (FQ) the state governing body of Australia’s highest participation team sport is extending its technical network from January 2019 with new Regional Development Officers. A position in North Queensland (Townsville) is available.

The Regional Development Officer role is a fulltime position responsible for delivering various FQ and regional football programs within the zone. They will lead coach education as well as player and game development to grow the sport and the technical level of participants. The RDO will essentially be responsible for all football technical matters across the region and should be sufficiently capable and adaptable to cater for any unique needs and circumstance which may exist and arise in the football zone.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • To ensure that the FQ technical direction is embraced and followed by coaches and players within the talented pathway in the respective Member Zone.
  • To play a key role in the appointment and management of the activities of the Talent Support Programs, Skill Acquisition Program. In conjunction with these coaches, oversee the selection of these respective teams.
  • To play a key role in implementing and monitoring FFA mandated community programs, including Aldi MiniRoos Kick Off and Aldi MiniRoos programs.
  • To assist the State Technical Director in establishing a talent identification network within the particular region.
  • To lead and manage the human resources of the Talented Player Pathway in accordance with the policies, principles and practices of Football Queensland
  • Manage the technical framework of the TSP/SAP training and game programs, including Quad Series, FQ Country Cup, etc
  • Assist clubs to recruit Club Coaching Co-Ordinators/Director of Coaches to create a strong technical network within the zone. Assist clubs with CCC/DOCs mentoring, personal development
  • Establish and maintain strong professional relationships and communication with all stakeholders, including but not limited to FQ, associations and clubs
  • Establish a communication strategy with associations and clubs, developing coaching pathways and performances measures in conjunction with these bodies and provide advice and support on coaching matters
  • In liaison with FQ’s MiniRoos Development Officer promote football in schools
  • Oversee the Football Queensland coach education structure, deliver courses in line with the national curriculum whilst ensuring it meets the needs of local coaches. Establish a communication strategy, standards and updating structure, and facilitate the promotion of coaching and coach education/mentoring

Knowledge, skills, attributes and behaviour required 

  • AFC B license or FFA recognised equivalent
  • Football knowledge and playing/coaching experience
  • Understanding and experience working in the area of community and talented player/coach development
  • Good physical health and fitness to delivery coaching sessions
  • Experience in the establishment and ongoing management of coach/athlete development programs under the current FFA National Football Curriculum
  • Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills with the ability to plan, coordinate and execute tasks and projects through to completion whilst meeting deadlines, balancing competing demands and having a specific attention to detail
  • Ability to work with limited direction to initiate procedures
  • Personal skills such as adaptability, enthusiasm, self-intrinsic motivation, can do attitude, able to engage young people, strategic thinking, ability to work independently and manage and encourage stakeholders’ collaboration
  • High level communication skills, particularly presentation skills
  • Ability to mentor technical staff/coaches and to provide leadership and direction

The following skills and qualifications are desirable:

  • Experience in preparation and delivery of education and training programs
  • Experience in working with volunteers

Essential Requirements

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Working with children check
  • Drivers Licence
  • AFC B license or FFA recognised equivalent

Employer and Other Details

  • Full Time Employment (38 hrs/week) including superannuation

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview process in early November. Relocation costs within Australia may be considered for successful applicants. A week-long RDO introductory training/workshop is expected to be held in late November/early December 2018 in Brisbane.
