Position Summary

The Brisbane Bullets Basketball Club is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a reputation for commercial acumen to appoint to the position of Head of Commercial Sales.

This senior management position will report through to the Chief Commercial & Operating Officer and will lead the commercial related activities across the club.

The Club is seeking a strong leader and communicator with the passion for sales, that will drive and nurture mutually beneficial partnerships that deliver revenue to support the sustained success of the Brisbane Bullets.

Revenue & Partnerships

  • Develop a commercial sales business plan that provides clear direction to achieve outcomes.
  • Work with Brisbane Bullets staff to identify all programs and activities in terms of their existing and potential for partners / sponsors; including identification of value proposition and ideal partners.  Ensure all proposals fit with the ability of the organisation to deliver with a maximum net return / margin.
  • Maximise the acquisition of sponsorship revenue, and private investment (in form of cash and in-kind arrangements) including the management of relationships, partnerships, proposals / procurement and servicing.
  • Successfully negotiate new and renewal contracts that achieve margin return targets set by the Executive.
  • Analyze financial results and research data and make recommendations regarding revenue streams to enhance the performance of the commercial business.
  • Meet all specified targets including net revenue growth and profit margin.
  • Utilize CRM tools to track, measure, and analyse sales activity

Relationship Building & Management

  • Prospect, generate leads, develop relationships, understand customer needs, present solutions, negotiate, and close new business
  • Manage daily and weekly sales activity including outbound calls, face-to-face appointments, proposals sent, contracts out and networking functions
  • Attend various corporate, community and charitable functions as a representative of the club with the goal of commercial prospecting
  • In conjunction with the CCO/COO, conduct surveys, executive focus groups, and sponsor summits to enhance the experience of our clients

Corporate Hospitality

  • Drive sales strategy with associated budgets, key targets and related sales team KPIs and manage sales commission plan
  • Ensure the sales team utilise CRM and maintain up-to-date records of the sales and fulfillment of all sponsorship related assets that form part of the partnership benefits.
  • Manage dedicated corporate relationships and after sales support- from close of sale through to game day experience;

Corporate Experience

  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Consumer Engagement, to ensure fulfilment of ticketing and benefits
  • Assist with the delivery of Game Day Corporate & VIP experience
  • Actively network game day clients, identifying new prospects to meet, follow up and upsell 

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in a commercial role within a sporting organization
  • 2+ years’ previous experience at senior management level
  • University qualification in Management, Sports Management or Sport Development.
  • Understanding of the professional and community sport environment.
  • Experience in developing, managing and reporting against budgets.
  • Staff management experience, including full time and casual employees.
  • Outstanding communication skills – written and verbal
  • Experience developing and using CRM system
  • High levels of self-confidence, initiative and personal presentation;
  • Ability to effectively deal with conflict;
  • Ability to be innovative
  • Ability to use initiative
  • Ability to work as an effective team member
  • Effectively use all Office365 applications - Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint etc.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and travel as required to deliver outcomes.

The Brisbane Bullets is a foundation club of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) and has won 3 NBL Championships, being the first Brisbane based professional sporting club to win a Championship in any code.

The Bullets returned to the NBL in 2016 following a 9 year absence and in only the 3rd season back in the league qualified for the Playoffs in the 2018-19 season. In addition to on-court performance, the Club has been effective in re-establishing connections in the community and across commercial and fan networks.
