We welcome applications for this amazing opportunity to lead and inspire a high performing team. The Manager, Diversity and Inclusion plays a key role in providing leadership, coordination and direction for the successful implementation of key elements of inclusion.

About Us:

Basketball Victoria (BV) is the governing body for the sport of Basketball in Victoria.  The broad objectives of BV are to provide for the advancement, encouragement, conduct, promotion and administration of Basketball in Victoria.

In addition to supporting our affiliated Basketball associations, BV coordinates a number of participation and player, coach and official’s development programs to encourage the development of socially desirable attitudes and values towards physical fitness and skill acquisition. This includes selection and development of players, teams or sides to represent BV in interstate and state matches; providing individuals with the opportunity to maximise their potential by competing in the highest level of Basketball possible, given their own ability.

BV works to provide greater access for individuals to participate in Basketball in the State of Victoria, by working with local, state and federal stakeholders to drive infrastructure growth. BV is a recognised leader in inclusive practice as evidenced by VicHealth granting exemplar status to advocate for increased access and equity for people with disabilities in all sports settings.

Key Responsibilities for the role:

  • Maintain a strategic focus while planning, leading and managing outcomes associated with the strategic plan, inclusion and all funded projects.
  • Lead, advise and support inclusion across all facets of the business, including the development of initiatives to improve equity of access and increased opportunity for disadvantaged communities.
  • Liaise with and build relationships with associations, communities, local government authorities and other agencies to assist in reaching objectives.
  • Share resources and expertise to forge greater community sport development with a more targeted delivery approach.
  • Develop and deliver workshops, programs and presentations to stakeholders including government, VicHealth and other sporting bodies and organisations.
  • Prepare and submit funding proposals.
  • Manage, service and deliver funded projects, including preparing reports, presentations and acquittals for all funded bodies, government and departments.
  • Continually identify areas for process improvement and execute accordingly.

Leading the Diversity and Inclusion Team

  • Oversee the Diversity and Inclusion team’s programs including but not limited to:
    • Multicultural
    • Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander 
    • Intellectual Disability
    • Wheelchair basketball
    • Walking Basketball
    • Women and Girls strategy
  • Ensure that BV’s agreed values and cultural norms are communicated, understood and reinforced in a consistent manner, through effective leadership.
  • Oversee operations of the Diversity and Inclusion Department, set goals and objectives, and design a framework for these to be met.
  • Coach and mentor Diversity and Inclusion Team Members.
  • Integrate process improvements.
  • Manage the Diversity and Inclusion budget. 

Essential Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in a related discipline or minimum 3 years’ experience in a related field.
  • The ability to demonstrate Basketball Victoria’s organisational values.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Victorian basketball competition associations and club structures.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, professional manner across all communication channels.
  • Knowledge and understanding of community sport, including issues, risk assessments, opportunities and working with volunteers.
  • Computer and IT skills, including in MS Office and the ability to learn new concepts and software.
  • Ability to analyse information, solve problems and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to delegate tasks effectively.
  • Ability to appreciate diversity and provide a range of sensitive and appropriate services.
  • Experience in a similar role in areas such as sports management, community events or communications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the disability sports sector, including inclusive access, participation and adaptive environments.
  • Well-developed organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage change and achieve results.
  • Knowledge, experience and skill in developing, implementing and managing programs and events.
  • Ability to promote events and programs and work with associations and community organisations.
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience building positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge and understanding sports development, venue management and member protection.
  • Knowledge and experience supervising a diverse range of people, including volunteers.

Desirable Criteria

  • Understanding of basketball or the broader sports sector in Australia.
  • Able to demonstrate previous success leading high performing teams.
  • Ability to manage, implement and monitor quality programs.
  • Previous experience applying for government funding and grants.
