Description

CYCLING AUSTRALIA

Cycling Australia (CA) is the peak body responsible for cycling in Australia.

Cycling Australia is the national administrative body responsible for the sport of cycling in Australian as recognised by the International Cycling Union (UCI), the Australian Government through Sport Australia (SA), the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) and the Paralympics Australia (PA).

Our vision is to be the world's leading cycling nation and our mission is to inspire Australians to ride with us.

Cycling Australia is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.  All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability or age.

This is a part-time position within a national sporting organisation.  This role will be part of the team delivering Cycling Australia’s new participation strategy, Ride Nation.

The aim of Ride Nation is to provide the opportunity for more people to enjoy riding their bike regardless of age, circumstance, skill level and location.  In order to be the destination for riders to learn and connect as a community, we are creating community riding centres and we need a passionate person to coordinate the implementation for Wollongong and the broader Illawarra area.

About the role

This is a rare opportunity to be part of strategy implementation at the ground-level.  The right person will be instrumental in setting up and establishing systems and processes for the operation of a community riding centre.

We are looking for someone who has experience in recreation/leisure program activation, community engagement and building relationships with key stakeholders.

This position is responsible for the coordination of a range of cycling programs at the Ride Nation Centre (Wollongong). As part of Cycling Australia’s Participation team, this role requires developing effective and strong relationships with the local community, schools and recreation clubs to support participation in cycling.

Well-developed interpersonal, customer service skills and the ability to develop effective and strong relationships with a range of stakeholders is essential to succeed in the role.

This role also encompasses an ability to identify and prioritise improvements relating to systems, as well as recognising opportunities and mitigating problems.  As the first cycling centre of its kind, the role will contribute to the on-boarding strategy for subsequent riding Centres.

The Ride Nation Centre Coordinator (Wollongong) will report to the GM – Participation and Member Services.

Key Activities Include:

  • Facilitate development and delivery of a range of riding activities and initiatives that encourage participation
  • Build relationships with schools to inform and engage them in programs being delivered in the school setting or at the Centre.
  • Deliver Cycling Australia’s “CAST” (Cycling Australia School Teacher) training course to school teachers
  • Evaluate success of activities and implement improvements where required
  • Initiate, support and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders including sporting, recreation, health and education organisations to develop strong and effective relationships
  • Prepare and communicate workforce rostering for activity delivery requirements
  • Implement local area marketing activities
  • Coordinate venue arrangements
  • Initiate or respond to program inquiries and manage program registrations via the digital platform
  • Actively contribute to Centre activities that best meet community needs
  • Ensure Centre operations adhere to Cycling Australia’s compliance and risk management framework
  • Contribute to reporting and evaluation of the Centre

What we’re looking for:

  • Dynamic and proactive communicator, who can work with others to deliver results
  • Good understanding of the key community stakeholders and proven ability to work with these groups collaboratively
  • Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders and influence them to achieve outcomes
  • Understanding of and commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Solution focussed with flexible mindset, to work with a variety of stakeholders
  • Knowledge and interest in the benefits of sport/physical activity

Mandatory:

  • Qualification in sport management or leisure services or equivalent experience
  • The person will be required to hold or be willing to obtain a CA Course Presenter qualification, which is a blend of coaching, practical and theory (obtaining this qualification will be arranged including covering costs for the right person)

Some cycling knowledge is desirable, along with an understanding of and interest in the sporting/physical activity sector and particular challenges in engaging providers.

The position is part-time based on 28 hours p.w.  Due to the nature of the work some of these hours may be outside of standard business hours.  The role will be based in or around Wollongong.  As Cycling Australia does not have a local office, the Coordinator will be provided with a desk in the local Office of Sport and Recreation.

The role is offered until December 31, 2022.

Conditions:
