About the Centres
Mount Alexander Shire pools that are currently managed by YMCA Victoria include; Castlemaine Swimming Pool, Harcourt Swimming Pool, Maldon Swimming Pool and Newstead Swimming Pool.
Key Elements of the Role
Lifeguards at Mount Alexander Shire Pools are responsible for supervising the pool areas, as well as identifying potential risk factors & taking steps to reduce those risks. Lifeguards act as positive role models to build healthy, happy and connected communities. Successful lifeguards will be able to provide the highest level of supervision and customer service whilst maintaining a fun and safe environment for all. Staff must be available to work a variety of shifts including weekends.
The Lifeguard will:
- Provide adequate supervision of aquatic facilities to ensure the safety of all facility users.
- Maintain concentrated observation of pools and patrons to anticipate and respond to problems
- Ensure facility rules are being obeyed whilst at the same time educating facility users about safe aquatic practices.
- Carry out intervention and preventative action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patrons, the facility and equipment
- In conjunction with facility management facilitate the timely and safe use of water space, in clearly defined areas using appropriate signage
- Undertake regular cleaning and tidying duties to ensure the maintenance of a safe environment for staff and patrons
- Performs other duties as required commensurate with their skills and experience
- Undertake customer service tasks.
Selection Criteria
- Ability to supervise a large aquatic space while pro-actively ensuring a safe environment, for all facility users in accordance with the aquatic and supervision program and lifeguard deployment plan.
- Understands the unique needs of the families, CALD, all abilities and can respond appropriately
- Creates a welcoming atmosphere by engaging all people in a friendly and approachable manner
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
- Understanding of emergency procedures and ability to act accordingly
Qualifications
Mandatory Pre-requisite Qualifications
- Pool Lifeguard Award HLTAID003
- Apply first aid or equivalent
- HLTAID001 Perform CPR or equivalent
- Defibrillator Qualification (desirable)

- a national criminal history check;

- ACF Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)
- Two reference checks.
