Description

Are you interested in making a significant contribution to the future success of Australian sport? If so, an exciting opportunity exists to complete a PhD with The University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) and Paralympics Australia (PA) in the area of para-athlete talent transfer.

Talent transfer is the targeted transference of athlete skills from one sport to another. It can help ‘fast-track’ athletes to the podium by supporting the maturation of emerging athletes and accelerating the development of established athletes in another sport. While there is much potential in the talent transfer pathway, research is limited, with existing work focused on able-bodied athletes. As such, there is a clear opportunity to explore the talent transfer pathway in the context of para-sport, where the barriers and challenges facing para-athletes in achieving sporting success are inherently unique.

Specifically, the project looks to investigate the factors that influence talent transfer pathways for para-athletes. This will be determined through engaging with former, current and emerging, elite Australian and international competitors, while also consulting with elite para-sport stakeholders such as coaches, performance managers and sports administrators. The findings from the project will generate ‘real world’ value aimed at informing the development and evaluation of a framework to guide future para-sport talent transfer processes. Furthering the development of high-performance para-sport, the study will increase opportunities for para-athletes across Australia.

The supervisory team on this project is multi-disciplinary and you will have the opportunity to work between USC, QAS and PA during your PhD candidature.
