Surf Life Saving NSW (SLSNSW) is the state's peak water safety and rescue organisation, with a mission to save lives, create great Australians and build better communities. In addition to the iconic red and yellow uniforms patrolling beaches from 129 clubs across the state, SLSNSW is a diverse business including lifesaving, training and education, partnerships, member services, communications and more.
Surf Sports showcase the skills and physical abilities required to save a life and is part of our national sporting and cultural heritage. Athletes can compete in a full range of beach and water events, pool rescue events, surf boats, surf board riding events, and over winter in the pool and the inflatable rescue boat (IRB) series. Two of the key events held each summer are the Country Championships and the State Titles that cater for competitors aged 9 to 65+ and are among the biggest of its type with in excess of 7000 people participating over the course of the State Titles.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Sports Manager will strategically drive the operations and growth of Surf Sports in NSW. Leading the Surf Sports team, this role will be responsible for the development and delivery of a contemporary range of surf sports events and programs that attract participants, recruit and retain members and engage the wider community. These activities span across the delivery of major patricipation / elite level sports events, coaching and officials’ education, new member recruitment, athlete development, pathways and high performance programs.
SLSNSW has a renewed focus on growing sports participation and building the capability of coaches across its clubs, creating a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic leader to develop and deliver contemporary programs and events that drive the ongoing success of Surf Sports across NSW.
The role requires a dynamic and mentally agile team leader, with the ability to swiftly build credibility and effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders including internal departments, senior officials, member clubs and volunteer committees.
To be considered for this role your demonstrated success in managing major events will be matched by your experiences in the development and delivery of programs that have grown both athlete participation numbers and coach capability at a club level. These experiences will ideally have been gained from within a multi-sport, aquatic sport or mass participation environment, with a surf life saving background highly regarded.
You will have a mentally agile and decisive decision making style with demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and activities at once with whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail, developing and managing operational business plans that deliver projects and events both on time and on budget. An understanding of risk management principles and safety culture is also required.
This is a multi-faceted role that would suit an experienced manager keen to leave their mark on Surf Sports in NSW.
