Western Leisure Services Pty Ltd (WLS) is a wholly owned independent business of Wyndham Council and manages three leisure facilities in Wyndham City - AquaPulse, Eagle Stadium and the Werribee Outdoor Pool.
WLS was created in 2014 and AquaPulse and Eagle Stadium, both re-developed at an approximate cost of $50M each, were opened in 2015. AquaPulse aquatics facilities feature a 50m Olympic pool, 25m Learn to Swim pool, therapy/program pool, aqua play area, steam/sauna rooms, spa and 2 giant waterslides. Werribee Outdoor Pool is a seasonal summer facility featuring an outdoor heated 50m pool, plus a heated and shaded leisure pool. These facilities enjoy an annual visitation of over 1 million people.
The Aquatics Manager will provide effective leadership, management and development of aquatic programs, services, staff, and resources. The role is responsible for the day to day management of all aquatic operations including pool supervision and the swim school. The position will provide leadership and direction to the Aquatics team of approx. 190 staff (10 permanent, 180 casuals) to ensure services are delivered with the highest regard to safety, quality and service.
As part of the Management Team, and reporting to the General Manager Aquatic Facilities, the Aquatics Manager will actively contribute to the achievement of WLS business objectives, organisational culture and provide leadership and foster cooperation across all departments.
The successful candidate, first and foremost will be an effective leader of people, with extensive operations and staff management experience, ideally from within a large aquatic facility or recreation environment. The position directly manages the Swim School Operations Coordinator, Aquatic Operations Coordinator and Aquatic Operations Support Officer who oversee all the casual staff. The ability to guide and mentor these key leadership positions is crucial to the success of the team.
Operational responsibilities include planning, development and implementation of WynSwim (Learn to Swim), school aquatic programs, pool bookings, birthday parties, and development of new aquatic programs to drive participation and revenue. A key aspect of the role is to manage the relationships with key aquatic user groups.
This role is also responsible for ensuring compliance within relevant regulatory frameworks and industry guidelines. This includes aquatic safety, water quality, and levels of pool supervision, which have a significant impact on operations, customer satisfaction, and financial performance.
In addition to strong people leadership skills and experiences, we are seeking candidates who are either well versed in aquatics and recreation management, or willing to quickly learn and upskill in this area. Importantly, the ability to develop, implement, and monitor operational systems for best practice and business performance is required.
Technical qualifications including Pool Plant Operations, Pool Lifeguard and Swim Teaching Accreditation are highly desirable.
