The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) seek an experienced Swimming Head Coach to lead the Western Australian, Swimming Australia, High Performance Hub Swimming Program into current and future Olympiads.

The WAIS is an elite sports institute established in 1983 by the Government of Western Australia to support athletes in Western Australia.

WAIS measures its success by the quality and quantity of its contribution to Australian International Sporting Success. The WAIS operational focus is on the delivery of high-quality daily training environments to athletes currently representing Australia or considered capable of representing Australia in the future. WAIS operates and manages a series of Sport Programs as agreed in formal partnerships with each sport's National Sporting Organisation (NSO) and the State Sporting Organisation (SSO). Each program constitutes a core element of the sport’s national high performance athlete pathway. Swimming is currently one of ten sport programs supported by the WAIS.

The Head Coach - Swimming is responsible for delivering high quality daily coaching plans and creating a training environment where WAIS Swimming Athletes can thrive.  The role will focus on maximising athlete performance in an ethical and holistic manner to be internationally competitive at events such as the World Championships and Olympic Games.

The Head Coach will be based in the WAIS High-Performance Service Centre in the McGillivray Oval precinct located in Mt Claremont, (Perth), Western Australia. Work in a state-of-the-art performance facility, with the training pool meters away; this is the perfect environment for a driven coach to deliver a successful high-performance Swimming program.

The Head Coach is responsible for setting the vision for WAIS Swimming Program and leading scholarship athletes and a multidisciplinary team (The Performance Enhancement Team PET) to achieve this vision. The PET comprises of Physical Preparation Specialist, Technical Performance Specialist, Performance Psychologist, Physiotherapist, Nutritionist, Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement Advisor and PET Coordinator.  Supporting and reporting to the Head Coach will be a Senior Assistant Swimming Coach.

The Head Coach provides the PET leadership to ensure that all performance support staff collaborate to optimise athlete performance by fostering a high-performance team culture, actively encouraging positive engagement from all team members, and ensuring team operations follow WAIS policy and procedures.

The Head Coach Swimming is part of the Performance Enhancement Team - Podium and, along with the PET staff, reports to the Performance Team Director - Podium. The Head Coach works closely with the Swimming Australia National Coach to ensure that the emphasis and direction of the WAIS program are consistent with the National Direction.

This is a 1 + 2-year fixed term contract, with, depending on success in the role, has potential to extend to the 2028 Olympic cycle.  

Remuneration is commensurate with experience and results.
