The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) is seeking to recruit a passionate, driven, and collaborative high-performance professional to work within the Athletics program in our Performance Science team.

The role of Performance Scientist - Physiology, will suit a professional who has been working in a high-performance sporting environment for a number of years and brings a passion for sporting achievement with a focus on athlete performance, health and wellbeing, and a strong commitment to positively impacting high-performance culture.

Reporting to the Performance Science Manager, the primary purpose of this specialist role is to provide physiology expertise and deliver support to the VIS Athletics program, working collaboratively as part of an inter-disciplinary team approach.

This position will be based at the world class VIS headquarters in Melbourne’s Albert Park precinct but will require the capacity to travel to training and competition venues.

Essential Requirements

  • Human Movement / Coaching / Exercise / Sports Science Degree
  • Masters in Human Movement / Sports Science / Sports Physiology
  • A minimum of 5 years full time equivalent working within a high performance (HP) Sport environment
  • Current ESSA Sport Science Accreditation Level 2
  • Current Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Current Driver’s License
  • Proven success in utilizing knowledge and skills for planning and supporting athletes across multiple seasons/ campaigns to support long term performance progression at benchmark events
  • Developed problem identification and solving skills with a capacity to deal with complexity
  • Experience at National level competitions (e.g., National Championships)
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to work in an interdisciplinary team with HP staff, coaches, and athletes
  • Demonstrated experience in influencing behaviour and/ or leadership

Desirable Criteria

  • PhD in Human Movement / Sports Science / Sports Physiology
  • Current ISAK accreditation
  • Diverse exposure of sport experiences working with multiple and diverse sports and athlete populations
  • Experience with National teams at benchmark events
