Overall Position Objective

To manage the performance and basketball operations aspects of the Wanneroo Basketball Association (WBA) in line with associations strategic priorities and goals. Provide leadership and ultimately be responsible for the implementation of sound high performance strategies that ensure continuous improvement, growth and sustainability of the association.

The General Manager will ensure the associations performance and delivery is being managed on a day-to-day basis in line with the CEO’s direction, with a particular emphasis on the management of business operations, policy and procedure and competitions, programs and facilities.


  1. Assist with development and implementation of the organisation’s strategic direction and work directly with the CEO to plan and execute business and operational strategies, with an emphasis upon member growth, additional venue identification and continuous improvement of all club competitions, programs and products.
  2. Develop, maintain, and review operating procedures and policies for all aspects of the basketball programs within the Association.
  3. Represent the interests of WBA with all relevant stakeholders to ensure best practice stakeholder management principles are applied to enable growth opportunities to be presented, and sound professional relationships to be built and maintained.
  4. Work collaboratively with the relevant committees and volunteers in a not-for-profit structure.
  5. Maintain organisational policies and procedure documentation.
  6. Provide written reports as and when required by the CEO.
  7. Maintain oversight of the associations court bookings and facilities including the court usage matrix.
  8. Work with relevant staff to deliver all basketball activities including, Competitions, WABL, NBL1, Aussie Hoops, Schools and Development programs.
  9. Work with the CEO and relevant Directors to present operational budgets to the Board for endorsement on an annual basis.
  10. Ensure that budgets, O.H&S, risk management and customer service policies and procedures are in place and adhered to.
  11. Takes direction from the CEO as applicable.
  12. In addition to the duties specified above, the Employer is entitled to request the Employee to perform such other duties as are within the Employee’s skill, competence or training and are reasonably requested in order to meet the requirements of the company.

Human Resources:

  1. Coordinate volunteer attraction and retention strategies.
  2. Work with relevant staff to coordinate the efficient scheduling and recruitment of all casual staff.
  3. Manage the associations full time, casual, part time and volunteer staff.
  4. Deliver staff training and implement quality control measures for or casual, part time and volunteer staff.

Business & Finance:

  1. Reconcile invoices with current bookings schedule and records of actual usage.
  2. Reconcile all cash payments, floats and transactions.
  3. Run daily sales reports as required.
  4. Responsible for tracking the associations performance to budget.
  5. Actively seek grant funding opportunities, resources (including suitable basketball facilities) and new partnerships that will assist in delivering WBA operational objectives, whilst ensuring all existing relationships are effectively serviced.

Essential Requirements

  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Drivers Licence
  • Previous employment in a sporting association or similar
  • Previous management experience
  • Relevant program delivery experience
  • Advanced understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs especially Excel
