About NUsport Swim Academy: NUsport is renowned for its prestigious Swim Academy Program, currently boasting 2000+ dedicated members.  Operating in the regions only 50 metre indoor heated venue, the program runs 7 days a week.  Ensuring a collaborative approach between the Head Coach and Aquatics Manager, the NUsport Swim Academy has a focus on excellence and customer satisfaction. 

The Role: We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head Coach to lead and further develop our Swim Academy Squad Program and integrate with the NUsport Performance Centre delivered in partnership with the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) and Swimming NSW (SNSW). This rare opportunity requires a leader who is passionate about fostering talent and committed to maintaining our program's high standards of excellence and is willing to progress athletes through the Performance Centre pathway.

Opportunity: Being the home of the NUsport Performance Centre Squad we provide exceptional pathway opportunities for regional swimmers to train at an elite level delivered by world class coaches in an outstanding facility.  The NUsport Head Coach will be given the unique opportunity to work closely with, and be mentored by, the NUsport Performance Centre Squad Head Coach in a high-performance environment that includes exposure to performance support services and research projects.    

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Head Coach will provide exceptional leadership to the team of NUsport Swim Academy coaches through their advanced technical knowledge and outstanding communication skills. It is vital that the Head Coach provides a whole of program approach ensuring that every swimmer and coach in the program pathway has the opportunity to reach their potential.
  • To be successful in this role, you will have high performance coaching experience over a sustained period and a proven track record of building a high performance culture and achieving results whilst prioritising athlete wellbeing.
  • A critical component of this position is the understanding that the role of the Head Coach is to develop athletes ready to progress to the NUsport Performance Centre program.
  • Develop and manage the overall squad program in partnership with NUsport coaches, detailing high quality training and competition plans, athlete training schedules, camps, competition, testing and athlete progress benchmarks to ensure effective service planning, monitoring, and delivery.
  • Embed a culture of excellence through people, resources, and facilities.
  • Attend Performance Centre Steering Committee meetings upon request to provide program updates, contribute to the ongoing development of the program and report against established KPIs.
  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the delivery of an integrated holistic development program including education, dual career and personal development based on the individual needs of the athletes.
  • Provide a safe and inclusive environment by embedding best practice coaching techniques and adhering to SNSW and Swimming Australia policies.
  • Attend identified domestic competition opportunities as the NUsport Swim Academy Head Coach.
  • Lead and grow the NUsport Swim Academy Squad Program, currently consisting of 400+ members.
  • Work closely with the NUSwim Club to facilitate participation in local, state, and national competitions.
  • Foster a positive and motivating environment that encourages excellence and teamwork.

Essential Requirements

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Current Provide/Perform CPR
  • Development Swimming Coach Accreditation
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Proven ability to develop a successful club program from grass roots to high performance
  • Experience in creating alignment and accountability across a large squad program that focusses on technical excellence and appropriate skill acquisition at each level
  • Well-developed ability to plan, coordinate athlete training schedules, camps, competition, testing and athlete progress benchmarks
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including research, report writing, public speaking and presentations
  • Advanced Leadership & Influencing skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Proven negotiation, facilitation and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to prioritise and organise individual workload and achieve outcomes within agreed timeframes
  • Well versed in operational decision making
