About Surfing NSW
Founded in 1963, Surfing NSW is the peak body for surfing in New South Wales, covering all disciplines of the sport. We play a pivotal role in driving participation, supporting our boardriding clubs and their members to foster fun, safe and inclusive environments for all surfers, as well as provide a high-quality development pathway for aspiring surfers in the state.
The organisation boasts a dynamic network of over 130 clubs, 15,000 members, more than 50 surf schools and coaches, delivering hundreds of thousands of lessons each year. In addition, more than 750K surfers that routinely make waves every day across the state’s magnificent coastline.
Beyond fostering sport participation, Surfing NSW is committed to enhancing community wellbeing through its extensive educational programs. These include lifesaving first response training, aquatic trauma treatment, therapeutic surfing programs, and ocean career development, ensuring a holistic approach to the development of the sport and its participants.
Role Overview
The Marketing and Communications Manager will support Surfing NSWs mission to connect and expand the grassroots surfing community. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role focuses on developing and executing a cohesive marketing strategy, maintaining consistent brand positioning, and fostering community engagement through digital and social media channels. Beyond digital, this role is about bringing the Surfing NSW brand to life through event engagement, connecting directly with surfers, clubs, and partners to elevate the surf experience across NSW.
The role is hands-on, responsible for managing day-to-day marketing activities and executing key partnership plans. With strong digital experience, the Marketing Manager will coordinate with the team to run always-on EDMs and socials and campaigns, ensuring best practices in content and community management. The successful candidate will support client relationships and have an ideal position to develop brand value and ideas, helping Surfing NSW create impactful connections with its members across events and communications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy Execution: Implement marketing strategies to enhance visibility and engagement within the grassroots surfing community, aligning with Surfing NSWs mission and key stakeholders’ goals.
- Content Production Management: Oversee and coordinate content production to ensure messaging is consistent across all channels, including social media, email marketing (EDMs), and event-based communications.
- Digital Marketing: Design and execute EDM and social media strategies, applying digital best practices to drive engagement and reach target audiences effectively.
- Partnership & Account Management: Manage relationships with existing brand partners, ensuring smooth integration and alignment with Surfing NSW events and marketing initiatives.
- Project Management: Oversee marketing projects from planning through execution, ensuring timely delivery of campaigns and initiatives aligned with business goals.
- Brand Development: Work collaboratively to refine brand positioning, voice, and messaging, contributing to a unified and compelling brand presence.
- Membership Management Support: Experience managing member-specific communications and engagement strategies is advantageous but not essential.
Key Attributes:
The ideal candidate will have experience in developing marketing strategy, digital marketing execution, content production, and client management. You’re a creative project manager, hands-on and detail-oriented, able to execute across digital and social channels while balancing brand alignment and community engagement. Experience in brand-side marketing, social strategy, or agency experience is beneficial. An understanding of the surfing community and culture is a bonus, as we’re looking for someone passionate about supporting and connecting with the broader surf community in NSW.
