Basketball Australia is committed to providing elite development and competitive opportunities for athletes and coaches in the 3x3 international game.
With 3x3 now an Olympic and Commonwealth Games sport, the opportunities to represent Australia are increasing. Basketball Australia has established a framework around talent identification and selection for national teams, with an increased investment and focus on coaching and supporting these teams for international success.
We are seeking a Head Coach for our Men's 3x3 Team and a Head Coach for our Women's 3X3 Team.
Terms of appointment:
The term of appointment will be through to the end of 2026, with a formal review and ability to extend to incorporate the LA 2028 Olympic campaign.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Manage and lead:
- Champions Cup March 2025
- Asia Cup March 2025
- World Cup June 2025
- Commonwealth Games July/August 2026
- Providing technical leadership across the 3x3 men’s program.
- Develop and establish the 3x3 style of play.
- Monitor trends in the international game.
- Provide strategic direction on pathway development and links to the competition framework.
- Develop and prepare training and competition schedules for the men’s program.
- Prepare and present reports on the team’s performance from time to time.
- Liaise, where appropriate with club coaches and other officials of teams.
- Represent the team with media as required.
Desired experience and skill set:
- Understanding of international 3x3 basketball and the FIBA 3x3 rankings system.
- Experience in providing technical leadership to a basketball program.
- Awareness and ability to manage and enhance athlete welfare.
- Experience in leading an elite high-performance team.
- Experience in broader stakeholder relationships and managing volunteers.
- Demonstrated experience coaching 3x3 basketball at the elite level.
Key performance indicators:
- Implement a competitive international 3x3 style of play.
- Talent ID and recruitment: shortlist a 3x3 men’s/women’s squad.
- Competition and campaign success: Champions Cup 2025, Asia Cup 2025, World Cup 2025, Commonwealth Games 2026.
- Team analysis and review: feedback from athletes and support staff on campaigns.
- Maintain and enhance the current world ranking and anticipated performance outcomes.
Remuneration
This is a part-time role and remuneration will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
