The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is looking for a high calibre individual to fill the position of Paddle Sports Head Coach. The Paddle Sports Head Coach will report to the Paddle Sports Operations Manager.

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is one of the oldest and largest sports clubs in Hong Kong, with a rich, colourful history that spans 170 years of community and competitive sailing and rowing (including paddling). The RHKYC provides training programmes for practitioners of all abilities and ages – both members and non-members – to nurture their development, produce elite athletes capable of competing at the highest levels, and contribute to the growth and popularity of these great pastimes. The Club also organises a full calendar of high-profile local and international race events, helping place Hong Kong firmly on the global sporting map.

Position Summary

The Club's Paddle Sports Head Coach is responsible for overseeing the coaching of both Outrigger Canoe & Dragon Boating at RHKYC. The Head Coach will design and deliver training programmes and courses across the entire paddle sports development pathway, both senior and junior.

Working closely with the Paddle Sports Operations Manager they will ensure that the highest standards are set, and that departmental objectives are delivered. The Head Coach will lead by example and possess a natural desire to develop others and problem solve.

The role will work closely with:

  • Members, course participants, volunteers, committees, and staff
  • Dragon Boat/Outrigger Canoe/Kayak/and other Paddle clubs and coaches both locally and internationally
  • Representatives from related water sport's national and international governing bodies (NSAs)
  • Schools, charities, corporates, and youth groups

Primary Duties

  • Develop paddle sports at both the participation and performance level through design and delivery of training programmes and events at RHKYC
  • Oversee the coaching of all paddle sport training sessions, camps, & courses
  • Proactively plan, manage, coordinate, and deliver training sessions
  • Manage a team of coaches who support members with squad and individual athlete performance plans, progress reviews, and goal setting
  • Assist in the design and development of a 2-year calendar of courses, events, porgrammes, and competitions

Secondary Duties

  • Management and roster planning of other paddle sports coaches
  • Work with different community groups including schools and District Councils to expand the reach of the Club’s paddle sport programmes
  • Attendance and participation at various committee and working group meetings and events
  • Ensure the Club's Outrigger Canoe, Dragon Boat, Stand Up Paddling and Kayaking Safety Policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments are followed
  • Actively develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to the Hong Kong, China Dragon Boat Association, Hong Kong China Outrigger Racing Association, Hong Kong Canoe Union, Hong Kong Stand Up Paddling Association, Hong Kong Jockey Club, and schools
  • Assist in marketing and promotion of Club paddling programs in collaboration with the club's marketing team
  • With the assistance of other staff and member volunteers, ensure the boat house and surrounding property is kept safe, tidy and organised.
  • Utilise iCrew to manage boat and oar inventory, team rosters, member data, attendance records, practice session plans, and regatta lineups.

We look for people with

  • 5yrs+ water sports coaching with experience in outrigger canoe and/or dragon boat
  • Power boat license PVOCC Level 2 preferred
  • Some understanding of boat repair and maintenance
  • With social media platforms and sports management apps/software experience
  • MS Office including Excel, Powerpoint and Word
