Badminton Australia (BA) is the peak body for the sport of Badminton within Australia. Affiliated with the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) and Paralympics Australia (PA), we promote, develop and administer badminton throughout Australia in partnership with our State/Territory member organisations.

Badminton has the unique position of being an Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games sport. With over 400,000 participants and close to 16,000 members, we develop and implement inclusive national initiatives to reach diverse communities, deliver tournaments and events for players and fans, and represent the interests of our sport across international forums.

You will be joining BA at an exciting time as we have launched a new strategic plan in 2025, strengthen national and international events and with clear targets around increased engagement through our communication and social media channels.

Primary Job Purpose

The role has a focuse on two areas:

  • Manage, implement, develop and grow badminton events across Australia by leading and working with the badminton community
  • Lead the development, growth, and delivery of Badminton Australia communications including the BA website, E-newsletters, social media, and other promotional materials

Job Responsibilities

Events – The role will be responsible for the management of the day to day requirements for national and international badminton events in Australia. This includes but not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the delivery of the Open, U13/U17, U15/U19, and Para National Championships;  National School Championships and act as the Event Director where required
  • Lead and manage the delivery of the Australian International Challenge and Para Badminton International (currently being held in Bendigo every year until 2027)
  • Where Badminton Australia is responsible, manage the use of students, volunteers, casuals and contractors in the delivery of events
  • Oversight and where required take on the role of Event Director for Badminton Australia BWF approved ‘Internationals’
  • Support the CEO and Event Director for the planning and delivery of the Australian Badminton Open
  • Be responsible for the development of a template event operational plan and the use of this plan for event deliverers
  • Other duties as required to ensure the success of Badminton Australia and events

Communications - To lead the development, maintenance, and delivery of the Badminton Australia website, E-newsletters, social media, other promotional materials and other duties as required including.

  • To oversee the Social Media and Digital Content Creator role for the purpose of developing and placing/posting Digital Content on BA communication channels (ie Website, e-newsletter, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, LinkedIn etc)
  • Develop the BA newsletters and distribute through communication channels
  • Update the BA website as required
  • Prepare and release press releases based on information provided from BA staff as needed
  • Low level desk top publishing design where required – through Canva/photoshop
  • Other tasks as required by Badminton Australia

Additional responsibilities:

  • Cultivate positive relationships with key stakeholders, BA members, Australian Institute of Sport, International Federations and State & Territory Sporting Organisations
  • Provide bi-monthy reports to the CEO on progress made against the Strategic and Operational Plans
  • Lead event funding acquittal reporting and ensure deadlines are met
  • Commit to ongoing professional development to further enhance and improve knowledge
  • Adhere to BA’s values, behaviours and Sport Integrity policies

Special Requirements

  • Travel will be an important part of this role, as well as working outside of regular hours.
  • The role includes setting up and packing down of event equipment and managing our storage unit

Qualifications & Experiences

  • Minimum Bachelor of Sport Management/Administration/Marketing or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in sport events & sports marketing
  • Experience in and knowledge of Badminton is desirable but not essential
