Description

Be the architect of a destination women’s footy program.

MUWFC is relaunching for 2026 with a clear brief: build an environment where women love playing good footy. We’re searching for a Head Coach who’s hungry to create a best-in-class program - your systems, your culture, your standards - backed by a supportive new committee and strong club resources.

If you love leading people, developing players, and building something that lasts, this is your role.

The Role (Overview)

  • Title: Head Coach - Senior Women & Reserves
  • Reports to: Club President & Football Operations
  • Type: Voluntary honorarium (commensurate with experience)
  • Commitment: Pre-season planning; 2x training nights/week + game day; post-game review & periodic committee touchpoints (exact schedule set collaboratively)
  • Location: Melbourne University (Parkville) and VAFA venues

What You’ll Lead (Key Responsibilities)

  • Program & Game Model
    • Design and implement an aligned game plan for Senior & Reserves with clear roles, standards, and language.
    • Build a long-term development pathway (pre-season, in-season, off-season) including S&C integration and individual development plans (IDPs).
  • Coaching Team
    • Recruit, mentor, and coordinate assistant coaches, line coaches, and team managers across both squads.
    • Run high-quality, efficient training with progressions and clear learning outcomes.
  • Selection & Performance
    • Lead weekly selection with transparent criteria; manage player rotations between squads to maximise growth and team success.
    • Conduct opposition analysis, match-ups, and game-day strategy; drive half-time/three-quarter-time adjustments.
  • Player Development & Welfare
    • Provide regular feedback (stats, goal reviews) and nurture leadership within the playing group.
    • Champion an inclusive, safe, high-performance culture; uphold AFL Vic/VAFA child-safety and concussion guidelines.
  • Operations & Stakeholders
    • Work closely with Football Ops, Medical/Allied Health, and S&C to manage return-to-play and load.
    • Contribute to list management, talent ID, and recruitment; be a visible, positive leader in the MUWFC community.
    • Track key KPIs (attendance, retention, injury profile, W/L trends, player progression).

Desired Qualifications

  • AFL Coaching Accreditation Level 1 (minimum); willingness to obtain Level 2.
  • Experience coaching women’s or girls’ football (VAFA/AFLW/VFLW/Community Pathways or equivalent).
  • Current Working With Children Check and First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain promptly).
  • Familiarity with concussion management protocols and safe training principles.

Desired Skills & Attributes

  • Program Builder: You think in systems - curriculum, standards, and repeatable processes.
  • Teacher’s Mindset: Clear communicator; you make complex ideas simple and actionable.
  • Player-Centred: Skilled at IDPs, honest feedback, and growing confidence and game IQ.
  • Culture Driver: Inclusive, values-led, and uncompromising on safety and respect.
  • Game Strategist: Strong grasp of trends, match-ups, and situational coaching.
  • Collaborator: Thrives working with assistants, S&C, med staff, and committee.
  • Organised & Data-Curious: Plans ahead, reviews cleanly, learns quickly from metrics.

What We Offer

  • A genuine blank canvas to shape Senior & Reserves standards and identity.
  • A supportive, energised new committee committed to resources and alignment.

  • A chance to build the next generation of women’s football at a proud club.
