The Opportunity

We’re looking for an energetic and approachable coach to join our Coaching & Development Team.

Working under the direction of the Community Pathways Manager, the Community Pathways Basketball Coach is responsible for delivering high-quality basketball coaching and development programs that support the growth of players at all levels within the community pathway. This role focuses on fostering participation, skill development, and progression opportunities for athletes, while promoting positive sporting values, inclusivity, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the delivery of key Basketball NSW development events including:
  • U12/U13 Skills Days
  • Country and Metro Jamborees
  • Hero Challenges
  • Country Development Program (CDP) camps
  • Metro Development Program (MDP) camps
  • Deliver high-quality basketball coaching sessions across BNSW community and development programs
  • Create fun, safe, and positive environments by adapting coaching methods to engage diverse participants and support varying skill levels and individual needs.
  • Support the identification and development of athletes within community and regional programs and assist with their transition into the BNSW performance pathway.
  • Promote basketball participation across associations and community partners throughout NSW.
  • Assist with community events, camps, tournaments, and promotional activities to enhance basketball visibility and accessibility.
  • Actively identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with your responsibilities to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
  • Model and promote BNSW’s BLUES values in every aspect of work.

Other Basketball Activities

  • Basketball NSW supports employees being active in the sport through coaching, playing, officiating, or volunteering. Any such involvement must be disclosed at the time of employment and must not present a conflict of interest. Approval from BNSW is required prior to accepting additional basketball-related positions and leave for such activities must be taken as annual or unpaid leave.

Essential Requirements

  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Drivers Licence
  • Minimum Basketball Australia Club Coach (Level 1) accreditation (or higher).
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and delivering basketball in community or development settings.
  • Strong understanding of athlete development principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and administrative/organisational skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised/independently on tasks
  • Willingness to travel throughout NSW
  • Full Australian working rights: Australian or NZ Citizen or hold a permanent residency VISA

Desirable Criteria

  • First Aid Certificate
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in sport, education, or a related field.
  • Basketball Australia Association (Level 2) Coaching Accreditation or willingness to complete.
  • Experience working within a talent or performance pathway.
  • Understanding of the FTEM framework and athlete development principles.
  • Background in program coordination or community sports development.
  • Experience working with associations or community sport organisations.
