About the team – The Sport Intelligence & Analytics team leverages data to enhance athlete performance and deliver a competitive advantage to Australia’s high-performance system. The team delivers data engineering, data analytics, data science and data governance support and leads the administration of the Athlete Management System and AIS Hub digital platform for the Australian high-performance system. 

About the role – The Senior Data Engineer role will be responsible for the architecture and operation of national high-performance sport data systems that turn raw performance signals into decisions for coaches and athletes. Lead the design, operation, and continuous improvement of secure, scalable data platforms (Snowflake, AWS, Dagster/dbt) for the AIS and broader Australian high-performance network. Work autonomously in a small team, collaborate widely, and model high standards in delivery, governance, and coaching.

About you – We are looking for an analytical individual with excellent attention to detail, experienced learning new systems and tasks and is adaptive and responsive to changing circumstances. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in Python and SQL.
  • Experience building and optimising data pipelines, architectures and datasets.
  • Experience in small cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytics skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • Experience working with and managing data engineering tools such as Dagster, Airflow, DBT, Snowflake and ETL/ELT software.
  • Experience across emerging data engineering and database technologies.
  • Experience working with CI/CD tools such as Gitlab, Azure Devops. 
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (at least one major cloud, Azure, AWS or GCP), i.e. container orchestration basics, IAM, networking, and cost-aware design.
