POSITION OUTCOME: Delivery of an effective and efficient corporate service to achieve key priorities in support of triathlon’s strategic plan 

About the team 

Corporate Services is responsible for the “delivery of triathlon” through services provided to the Board and Leadership team, broader AusTri team, participants, coaches and clubs across Australia.

About the role

The GM Corporate Services provides leadership and direction to the broader corporate services team enabling effective and efficient “corporate operations” with a particular focus on realising the benefits of AusTriathlon’s operating model.  The GM Corporate Services will be responsible for delivering on key priorities in support of triathlon’s strategic plan.  These include the finance, risk management, marketing and communications, technology and integrity functions. This is one of three key leadership roles within the AusTriathlon organisational structure. 

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

AusTriathlon (AusTri) is a not-for-profit organisation and the governing body for the sport of triathlon in Australia. AusTri is responsible for ensuring the success and sustainable future of triathlon and multisport, making the sport easier to access, more relevant and more rewarding for a diverse triathlon community. AusTri operates recognised national working behaviours ensuring close ties across the state and territory triathlon network (STTAs). 

POSITION CAPABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following responsibilities are indicative requirements of the role and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all requirements:

  • Functional accountability to lead the Corporate Services functions to optimise efficiency, effectiveness and engagement:
    • Finance, Risk, and Insurance
      • Budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting, in line with agreed processes and timeframes.
      • Compliance and Governance, ensuring adherence to statutory requirements, audit processes, and financial policies.
      • Risk Management monitoring cash flow, reserves, and develop and implement risk frameworks, policy, and risk appetite statement.
      • Management of the whole of sport insurance program. 
    • Marketing and Communications Responsibilities
      • Ensure and align marketing and communication strategies to grow participation and brand awareness.
      • Ensure the alignment of campaigns that deliver organisational objectives.
      • Support the delivery of the partnerships framework and strategies to ensure the commercial outcomes are achieved. 
    • Technology Responsibilities
      • Oversee IT systems, data security, and digital projects, ensuring technology supports operational efficiency and member experience.
      • Manage vendor relationships and technology budgets.
      • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in digital services.
    • Integrity Responsibilities
      • Ensure and align integrity frameworks and strategies, including all policies related to the NIF.
      • Ensure strategic alignment with Sport Integrity Australia and relevant regulations.
      • Ensure and maintain whole of sport strategy relating to safety.
  • Leadership and Governance
    • Provide strategic advice to the CEO and Board sub-committees.
    • Lead and develop high-performing teams across corporate services.
    • Provide exceptional leadership to the Corporate Services team, ensuring policies, procedures, and all other employment activities are performed, adhered to and addressed.
    • Foster and empower people in the Corporate Services team to deliver quality results and focus on driving and developing high achievers in the team.
    • Encourage and oversee effective internal communication of direct reports to facilitate strong cross-departmental collaboration.
    • Foster a success-oriented culture of accountability within the organisation where resources are used effectively and efficiently to achieve stated objectives.
    • Management of the ‘back of house’ functions of the organisation.
    • Lead and maintain the AusTri Operating model. 
  • Stakeholder and relationship management
    • Develop and implement engagement strategies in relation to key stakeholders and partners.
    • Manage high-level stakeholder issues that could impact AusTri performance.
    • Be an active member of the Senior Leadership Team and drive cultural change aligned with the strategic plan and beliefs, providing strong leadership and coaching, and fostering a culture of support, collaboration and innovation.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships through regular communication with relevant Board subcommittees, Senior Leadership Team, Clubs and key contacts to align objectives.
    • Represent AusTri internally and externally to promote a positive profile, brand awareness and perception of Triathlon in the market.
    • Think and communicate on a ‘good for the sport’ basis.
  • Planning and Strategy
    • Ensure strategies and plans are in place and are working effectively across the organisation.
    • Lead the development and implementation of key performance indicators across the Corporate Services team.
    • Provide strategic leadership to AusTri through co-ordinated program management, systematic business improvement, procurement and development of AusTri culture to achieve strategic objectives related to people, processes, promotion and financial outcomes.
    • Actively engage banks and regulators and oversee all aspects of the finance function including internal and external reporting, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, taxation, cashflow management, treasury, financial analysis and compliance.
    • Work collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team to drive efficiencies for optimisation of profitability, provide advice and support relating to financial strategy, performance, risk, capital expenditure and other key strategic and operational matters.
    • Ensure systems, reporting dashboards and processes are current, effective, timely and deliver optimal outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

THE FOLLOWING ARE ESSENTIAL:

  • 7+ years Senior experience within a National Sporting Organisation (NSO) or similar.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and motivational skills.
  • Tertiary qualified with an undergraduate degree in Commerce/ Business/ Accountancy.
  • Post-graduate accountancy qualifications (CA / CPA).
  • Experience in governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication capability, including skill in networking and building effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Business improvement, process enhancement and strategic impact.
  • Strategic oversight and prior experience reporting to boards, providing articulate and succinct recommendations on direction.
  • Working with Children Clearance and Police Checks.
  • Awareness of, and ability to work in accordance with AusTriathlon’s Safeguarding and Children and Young People policies.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Consistent adherence to all obligations and legislative requirements regarding Child Safety, Working with Children and Sport Integrity. AusTri is committed to protecting Children from harm. We require all applicants that will work with Children to undergo an extensive screening process prior to appointment. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with Children/Young People. 
  • You must be an Australian/New Zealand citizen or hold permanent residency, or right to work in Australia. 
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours, including weekends and evenings, to attend events and meet organisational needs. 
  • Strong understanding of the Australian sporting landscape and regulatory environment.
