ABOUT THE ROLE:
The AFLW Head Coach is responsible for leading Richmond’s AFLW team to sustained success through a clear game model, elite coaching standards, and a player development philosophy that prioritises both performance and wellbeing. The Head Coach is accountable for delivering a competitive, values-driven program aligned to the Club’s purpose: Belonging, Thriving & Winning. This includes leading the coaching group, driving continuous improvement, and representing the AFLW program internally and externally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define and implement a game model that aligns with Richmond’s football philosophy and AFLW competitive trends.
- Lead the coaching team to deliver consistent messaging, drills, and feedback across training and match day.
- Drive match-day leadership and decision-making, including tactical adjustments and in-game feedback loops.
- Embed data-driven coaching by integrating GPS, performance metrics, and video analysis into planning and reviews.
- Oversee individual player development plans that combine technical, tactical, physical, and mental components.
- Collaborate with wellbeing and development staff to provide holistic support for players on and off the field.
- Mentor assistant coaches and high-performance staff to build capability and drive a culture of accountability and elite standards.
- Represent the AFLW program internally and externally, including media appearances and Club/AFL functions.
- Ensure compliance with AFLW rules and integrity policies, maintaining accurate records for audit and reporting purposes.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Proven experience as a senior coach or senior assistant at AFL/AFLW level.
- Deep understanding of modern AFL game trends, tactics, and technical skill development.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire players and staff in a high-performance environment.
- Strong capability in data and vision analysis for performance improvement.
- Experience managing media and external stakeholder engagement.
