ABOUT THE ROLE

The Club is seeking to appoint an AFLW Head Doctor to join our AFLW program for the 2026 Season. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leadership role within the medical team, providing oversight of medical services across the AFLW program.

The role is responsible for delivering an elite standard of medical management, treatment, and care to optimise the health, wellbeing, and performance of the AFLW playing group.

This position is offered on a maximum-term contract, commencing February 2026.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting directly to the AFL Head Doctor, the key areas of responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and oversee the AFLW medical program, providing sports and general medical support as required
  • Conduct comprehensive injury assessment and manage acute and chronic conditions to optimise player availability and performance
  • Manage weekly player medical status and communicate updates to key AFLW football department stakeholders
  • Deliver annual, preseason, and exit medical screening, including concussion, cardiac, dental, skin, and general health assessments
  • Attend AFLW training sessions (preseason and in-season) and all AFLW matches, unless alternative medical coverage is arranged
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records within the Club’s Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
  • Coordinate with VFLW medical staff regarding AFLW-listed player injuries and availability
  • Participate in high performance, medical, and welfare meetings as required
  • Lead concussion management in line with AFL guidelines, including screening, education, and return-to-play processes using approved systems (e.g. CsX)
  • Deliver player education programs, including concussion and anti-doping education
  • Oversee the AFLW supplement program in collaboration with the Dietitian and implement infectious disease protocols
  • Attend specialist appointments with players as required and complete mandatory professional development, including AFL Emergency Management training

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You are a dedicated and a skilled AHPRA-registered medical professional, with experience supporting elite athletes. You understand the medical demands of high-performance sport and are ready to lead a high-quality medical program that prioritises athlete, health, safety and performance.

You have a genuine passion for supporting athletes in a high-performance team environment, coupled with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities, is essential.

You are self-motivated, result-driven professional who thrives in a collaborative environment. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are key, enabling you to build strong relationships with players, staff, and stakeholders while delivering elite medical care and contributing to the overall success of the AFLW program.
