ABOUT THE ROLE
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Head Physiotherapist to join our AFLW Program for the 2026 season.
This role will lead the delivery of elite-level physiotherapy services, providing comprehensive injury management, treatment, and preventative care to optimise player availability and performance across training and competition.
The position is offered on a fixed-term contract, commencing February 2026.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting directly to the General Manager - AFLW, the key areas of responsibilities will include:
- Provide high-quality physiotherapy services to AFLW players, including injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the medical team to ensure the effective management of player injuries and health issues.
- Develop and implement injury prevention strategies and protocols, working closely with coaching staff to ensure they align with the team's game plan and player development goals.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to coaching and high-performance staff and players on injury management and return-to-play protocols.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in sports medicine, including research and innovation in injury prevention, diagnosis, and management.
- Work collaboratively with other medical and health professionals, including strength and conditioning coaches and sports psychologists, to ensure a holistic approach to player health and wellbeing.
- Ensure all medical records are maintained and managed in accordance with AFL and Melbourne FC policies and regulations.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
You are a registered Physiotherapist with a bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy, with a Sports Masters qualification preferred. Your experience in sports medicine has given you a strong understanding of the Australian sporting landscape, with AFL exposure being highly desirable.
You’re an exceptional communicator, with the ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively within a high-performing team. You excel in building rapport and trust with players and staff through your strong interpersonal skills.
You’ve demonstrated your skills in a similar role, where you effectively managed multiple tasks and prioritized them to achieve key outcomes. You are available outside of normal business hours including evenings and weekends.
