Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the Director of Coaching role is to lead the Manly Warringah Touch Association (MWTA) coaching program to achieve our mission of being the biggest and highest performing club in the world.
The position supports the development of a positive, consistent, and aligned coaching environment across MWTA. The role focuses on guiding and assisting coaches, helping them access the tools, resources, and education they need to deliver quality touch football experiences.
Working with the MWTA General Manager, the Director of Coaching ensures coaching practices align with both Touch Football Australia (TFA) and NSW Touch Association (NSWTA) frameworks without taking over day-to-day coaching responsibilities.
The position centres on supporting coaches, maintaining oversight of coaching standards, and helping ensure players enjoy safe, development-focused programs.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching Culture & Leadership
- Encourage a positive, inclusive, and collaborative coaching community.
- Help our coaches understand and embody the MWTA coaching principles and values.
- Promote MWTA values of Respect, Integrity, Inclusion, and Excellence.
- Be a positive presence who supports coaches when they need guidance.
- Ensure our coaches and representative players are leading in their support of the local MWTA competitions.
Coach Development & Mentoring
- Maintain awareness of coach needs, strengths, and areas for growth.
- Check in with coaches periodically to see how they’re going and what support they might need.
- Share useful resources, tools, and learning opportunities.
- Assist coaches who want to progress through TFA accreditation pathways.
- Keep a general awareness of coaching strengths and potential future coaches.
Program Quality & Standards
- Attend training sessions periodically to stay aware of coaching practices and provide supportive feedback.
- Use TFA-aligned tools to offer constructive, non-directive feedback.
- Encourage coaches to use available resources such as skill progressions, tactical frameworks, and video analysis tools.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Share information about coaching courses, accreditation updates, and NSWTA opportunities.
- Maintain positive relationships with NSWTA and Sydney Scorpions development staff.
- Help keep communication channels open for coaches (meetings, chats, forums).
- Assist in resolving coaching-related issues if they arise.
Compliance & Governance
- Help ensure coaches meet basic requirements such as WWCC and Codes of Conduct.
- Keep simple records of accreditation status.
- Assist in resolving coaching-related issues if they arise.
Reporting & Committee Involvement
- Provide updates to the MWTA General Manager and Executive Committee.
- Share observations about coaching progress and program quality.
- Support end-of-season coach debriefs.
- Participate in MWTA General Committee meetings.
Skills, Experience & Requirements
- Minimum Talent Level coaching accreditation (Elite Level preferred).
- Understanding of TFA coaching frameworks and NSWTA pathways.
- Current valid Working With Children Check.
- Experience supporting or guiding coaches.
- Friendly, approachable communication style.
- Passion for touch football and helping others grow.
- Collaborative, positive, and community-minded attitude.
