Description

  • Contract (August 2026 - February 2027)

A chance to be the first physio a new club can count on.

The Tasmania Jewels are the WNBL's first expansion team, and we are building our high-performance programme from the ground up. This role is the foundation of that work - caring for the health, confidence and physical readiness of our playing group across a full WNBL season.

This is a seasonal contract that runs from August 2026 through to February 2027. We want someone who brings genuine clinical care to the role and feels real connection to the athletes and the community they represent.

About Us

Tasmania JackJumpers are one-of-ten basketball clubs that form the National Basketball League (NBL) competition. Since launching in 2021, our strong cultural foundations and passionate fan base have led to unprecedented success on and off the court. In everything the JackJumpers do, we represent the state of Tasmania with pride. On the court, in the stands and in the community.

Tasmania Jewels are the newest addition to the WNBL, proudly becoming the league's first expansion licence and ninth team. Built on Tasmania's hallmark qualities of resilience, unity, and heart, the Jewels reflect the spirit of the island both on and off the court. With a deep commitment to our community and a clear vision for excellence, the Jewels are committed to establishing a strong culture that inspires players, fans, and future generations.

The Role

You will be the go-to person for athlete health across the full WNBL season. You work closely with the wider high-performance team to keep the playing group healthy, confident and on the court.

Your focus will include:

  • Assessing and rehabilitating injuries, with treatment plans tailored to each athlete
  • Running pre-season screening for every player and building prevention programmes
  • Managing return-to-play pathways with clear milestones and honest communication
  • Coordinating the broader medical team - trainers, doctors, psychologists and specialists
  • Attending all training sessions, home and away games, and finals
  • Keeping accurate medical records and updating coaches and staff on athlete availability
  • Managing medical stock and equipment so the team always has what it needs

You are based at the High-Performance Training Centre in Kingston. Interstate travel is part of the role across the season.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with solid clinical skills and genuine care for the athletes they work with.

To be considered, you will have:

  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy or equivalent, with current AHPRA registration
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance of at least $5 million
  • Experience working with athletes or in a team sport environment
  • Availability for evenings and weekends across the season
  • Current driver's licence and the ability to obtain a Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People check

Post-graduate qualifications in Sports or Women's Health Physiotherapy would be well regarded. So would experience in elite or semi-professional sport.

You build trust quickly. You communicate clearly and with care. You are calm on game day and thorough in pre-season. You see the athletes as people, not just a caseload.

This is a contract role with remuneration aligned to the seasonal scope of the position. We are committed to making it a rewarding experience for the right person - professionally and in terms of the environment you are stepping into.

Must Have Values

These are not aspirational. They are the minimum we expect from everyone at the Jewels.

Mindful - We respect each other, our fans, our stakeholders, our property, our facilities and our competitors.
Authentic - We represent the Tasmanian community - underestimated, hardworking, gritty.
Relentless - We embrace challenges, fight through adversity and grit and grind to the final buzzer.
Connected - We are connected as one club - Front Office, High Performance Team and players all aligned working together and for each other.
Humble - We appreciate and understand it is a privilege to do what we do.
