The Head of Digital & Content is a newly created role within the Marketing and Commercial Services team at Gymnastics Australia, reporting to the General Manager Marketing & Commercial Services. This role has direct responsibility for GA’s digital presence, social media channels, content creation and community management, and is as hands-on as it is strategic.

This role brings value to the gymnastics community by shaping how gymnastics is experienced, followed and loved across Australia. Through compelling content, an engaged athlete ambassador program and a thriving digital ecosystem, this role ensures members feel proud, connected and celebrated, and helps bring new audiences into the sport we love.

Marketing and Commercial Services Team

The Marketing and Commercial Services team is here to bring gymnastics into the future, through storytelling and raising our profile, building our capability to attract and service commercial partners.
The team will amplify the voice of our community and tell the story of our people and gymnastics heroes, engaging more people in the journey of our sport and the Australian Gymnastics Team.
The team will transform our event delivery building on what we already offer in the field of play and creating unforgettable experiences for our members and fans. The team delivers our national events and will work to secure opportunities for us to stage international events and build our capability in the lead up to Brisbane 2032.
The team will boost participation numbers in the sport by fully activating our digital and social channels and implementing national marketing campaigns in close partnership with state staff and clubs.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop one direct report, creating the conditions for them to grow and perform to an excellent standard
  • Contribute proactively to the Marketing and Commercial Services team culture, sharing knowledge and championing a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset
  • Role model GA values within the team and across the broader gymnastics ecosystem
  • Operate with initiative and ownership, this is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strategic thinking and practical delivery
  • Support the GM Marketing & Commercial Services in developing and executing an integrated marketing strategy aligned to the GA strategic plan

Strategic

  • Develop and own Gymnastics Australia’s digital and social media strategy, ensuring it is integrated with broader marketing, events and commercial priorities
  • Lead the social content strategy across all GA channels, building engaged communities and growing followership across key platforms
  • Develop and implement a GA athlete ambassador and influencer strategy — identifying the right voices, building authentic relationships, and creating a program that extends our organic reach and brings new audiences into the sport
  • Work collaboratively with the GM to contribute to the overarching marketing strategy, including campaign planning, brand positioning and audience development
  • Use data, insights and platform analytics to guide content decisions, report on performance and continuously improve digital output
  • Identify new digital products, platform opportunities and content formats that grow our audience and deepen fan engagement in the lead up to Brisbane 2032

Stakeholder Engagement and Relationships

  • Work closely with State and Territory Association marketing staff to align digital campaigns and amplify state-level content
  • Champion the voices of athletes, clubs and community in content creation, ensuring our channels reflect real stories from within our sport
  • Build and manage relationships with athletes, their support networks and influencers as part of the broader ambassador strategy
  • Liaise with commercial partners to deliver agreed digital and social partnership activations
  • Support the GM in building relationships with media, content platforms and influencers to extend reach and brand visibility

Operational and Administrative

  • Be hands-on in the creation and production of social content, including short-form video, reels, stories, graphics and written copy
  • Lead GA’s content calendar, ensuring a consistent, high-quality and on-brand content output across all social channels
  • Capture and produce content at national events and key moments, including liaising with athletes, coaches and staff for authentic storytelling
  • Manage and grow GA’s presence across all relevant platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn
  • Drive innovation in content formats and digital activations, staying ahead of platform trends and audience behaviours
  • Oversee digital campaign delivery for national marketing initiatives, events, participation programs and commercial partner activations
  • Own the day-to-day management of GA’s online communities across all social platforms, ensuring timely, on-brand and values-aligned responses
  • Monitor sentiment and conversations across digital channels, surfacing insights and escalating issues where appropriate
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the digital and social function, including scheduling, publishing, community management and reporting
  • Maintain brand consistency across all digital and social outputs in line with GA brand guidelines
  • Manage digital and social budgets, agency or contractor relationships, and platform tools efficiently
  • Provide regular reporting on digital performance metrics to the GM and broader leadership team

Values alignment, skills, qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Proven experience in social media and digital marketing, with a strong portfolio of content creation including short-form video, reels and graphics
  • Demonstrated ability to build and execute social media strategies that grow audiences and increase engagement
  • Hands-on experience with content creation tools and platforms (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, analytics and audience growth strategies
  • Experience in community management, actively managing online communities and maintaining a consistent brand voice
  • Experience developing or contributing to an influencer or ambassador program
  • Experience using data and insights to drive content and campaign decisions
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills with an instinct for compelling, shareable content
  • Experience in a role that has required both strategic planning and hands-on delivery
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Valid and current Working with Children Check and Police Check

Preferred

  • Experience in sport, not-for-profit or community-based organisations
  • Experience managing or mentoring a team member or direct report
  • Working knowledge of the Australian sport system or national governing body environment
  • Experience in paid digital advertising, SEO or email marketing
  • Passion for gymnastics or sport more broadly
