South East Melbourne Magic (SEM Magic) is seeking passionate and experienced basketball coaches and/or high-level playing experience individuals to join our D-League Skills Development Programs commencing Term 3, July 2026.

The program is focused on small-group skill development (5–10 players), supporting athletes from entry-level through to advanced domestic and elite pathway players aspiring toward VJBL and higher representative levels.

PROGRAM COACHING OPPORTUNITIES 

Successful applicants may be involved in one or more of the following programs, depending on experience, availability, and program fit:

  • Aussie Hoops (5-8 years): Entry-level foundational movement, coordination, and basketball basics.
  • D-League Skills Academy (U10/U12): Core fundamental skill development including ball handling, passing, footwork, and decision-making.
  • D-League Shooting School (U10-U16): Technical shooting development including form correction, repetition systems, game shooting, and progression work.
  • D-League Rising Stars (U10/U12): Advanced development for VJBL preparation, focusing on game concepts, competitiveness, and skill application.
  • D-League High Performance (U12-U16): Advanced domestic and VJBL-level athletes focusing on high-level skill execution, pace, IQ, and position-specific development.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Locations: Jubilee Park Stadium & McClelland College

Schedule:
Sunday: 3:00–4:00pm
Tuesday: 4:00–5:00pm
Thursday: 4:00–6:00pm
Friday: 4:00–5:00pm

Duration: Term 3 (7–8 week commitment)

Start Date: July 2026

We are seeking one or multiple coaches across these sessions, with flexibility depending on availability and expertise. 

CANDIDATE PROFILE 

We are looking for coaches or experienced players who demonstrate:

  • Strong technical understanding of basketball fundamentals and skill development
  • Experience working with small groups (5–10 athletes)
  • Ability to differentiate coaching between beginner and advanced athletes
  • Strong communication and engagement with junior athletes
  • Passion for player development and long-term athlete progression
  • Experience within domestic and representative pathways (preferred)

Requirements

  • Valid Working With Children Check (WWC)
  • Own transport
  • Reliability and commitment across scheduled sessions
  • Coaching accreditation (preferred but not essential depending on experience)

For the right candidates, there will be opportunities to expand involvement across SEM Magic programs, squads and teams.
