The South Fremantle Football Club (SFFC) is one of Western Australia’s most respected and historic football organisations, proudly competing in the WAFL competition and contributing to the game for more than 125 years. Our club has a long-standing tradition of developing talented young footballers and supporting their progression to senior football at both WAFL and AFL levels.

The Opportunity 

The Colts Head Coach works in partnership with the Talent Manager and performance support staff to establish and maintain a high-performance environment that maximises player growth, development and readiness for senior WAFL and AFL football. The role is responsible for fostering a positive learning environment that prioritises player wellbeing while driving excellence, accountability, continuous improvement and high performance standards across all aspects of the program. This includes preparing players for the technical, tactical, physical and behavioural demands of senior football.

In this role, the Colts Head Coach is responsible for developing and embedding a strong performance culture where the Club's values are consistently demonstrated by the playing group, coaches and support staff. The role will lead the planning, implementation and continual review of the football program, oversee the development of the coaching panel, and drive an effective match day coaching strategy that supports both individual and team performance.

The Colts Head Coach will play a key leadership role across the South Fremantle Talent Pathway, providing guidance, education and mentorship to coaches within the Futures and Development Squad programs. Through aligned coaching philosophy, player development frameworks and performance expectations, the role will ensure players are systematically prepared for the demands of Colts football and their progression towards senior WAFL and AFL football.

The Colts Head Coach will also play a critical role in the retention and engagement of Colts players while fostering strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including players, parents, support staff, senior football staff, club administration and AFL clubs, ensuring alignment across the player development pathway and supporting successful transition into senior football.

What We’re Looking For 

To be considered for the role, candidates must have the following essential skills and experience: 

  • Level 2 (Silver) AFL Coaching Qualification 
  • Sound knowledge of IT platforms used at state league level such as HUDL (vision platform) and Champion Data (statistics)
  • Highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a strength in building relationships with players and staff 
  • Exhibits high levels of sound ethical foundations in decision making and strong consistent principles underlying management and leadership behaviours 
  • Willingness to uphold the values & behaviours of the South Fremantle Football Club (SFFC)
  • Available to work three evenings during the week for training and one day on the weekend as per the WAFL season fixture
  • A current Driver’s License 
  • Current Working with Children’s Check (or ability to obtain)

Other skills, experience and attributes which are highly desirable: 

  • State League Experience (Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Player)
  • Flexible and responsive to change in direction and priorities, as required 
  • Teaching or training background 
  • Prior experience coaching youth aged footballers (15-18 year olds)
  • Previous experience leading a succesful team
  • Growth Mindset approach 

This is a part-time role of up to 20 hours per week, with remuneration based on the successful applicant's coaching experience & aligned with WA Football minimum standards.
