THE OPPORTUNITY

The AFL Rehabilitation Physiotherapist is responsible for leading the rehabilitation of injured athletes within our AFL Program. Working as part of an integrated high-performance team to design and deliver evidence-based rehabilitation programs, guiding athletes from injury through to successful return to competition. Combining clinical expertise, rehabilitation leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration, the position plays a key role in optimising athlete health, availability and performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Align with the Sydney Swans rehabilitation philosophy and contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to athlete care.
  • Lead the planning, coordination and progression of individual rehabilitation programs in collaboration with the Head Physiotherapist, Club Doctor and Head of Athletic Performance, providing regular updates on progress, availability and return to play planning.
  • Partner with the Rehabilitation Strength & Conditioning Coach to deliver all aspects of rehabilitation, including assessment, treatment, strength development, running progression and conditioning.
  • Monitor, analyse and report rehabilitation data to guide prognosis, progression, functional milestone achievement and return to performance outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with athletes and key stakeholders to support effective communication and shared decision making throughout the rehabilitation process.
  • Attend all scheduled training sessions, including weekend rehabilitation sessions
  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records and rehabilitation documentation.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Master’s degree in Sports Physiotherapy and current AHPRA registration required
  • 5+ years’ experience working in high performance sport
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and navigate complex and high-pressure sporting environments.
  • High levels of data competency, including using Athlete Management Solutions, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and PowerBI
  • Experience working with GPS and strength diagnostic technologies

Due to the nature of the industry, the ideal candidate must be flexible in their availability as extended hours and weekend work will be required for this role.
