Description
The Inland Waterways Life Saving Certificate course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to be able to supervise students in inland natural water environments. This active and engaging two day course consists of both theory and practical components. The course covers the following topics:
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
- Personal safety and wellbeing
- Inland waterway awareness and skills
- Communication
- Rescue techniques
- Planning an inland waterway visit
- Carries and supports
Assessment
To demonstrate competency, candidates are assessed on both theoretical and practical components throughout the course.
Theory consists of an examination paper (100% pass mark)
Demonstration of CPR
Water based assessments include:
- Signals
- 200m run / 200m swim / 200m run at a beach (eight minutes or less)
- Risk and safety assessment
- Rescues
Candidates will also receive a Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:
HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
PUASAR013 Participate in an Aquatic Rescue Operation
SISCAQU002 Perform Basic Water Rescues
SISCAQU006 Supervise Clients at an Aquatic Locations
Prerequisites
- Candidates must be 15 years of age.
- Must have a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability i.e. be able to swim 400 metres in 9 minutes in a swimming pool
