Description

The Australian Sports Commission is embarking on the Green and Gold decade. An exciting time filled with international sporting competitions on home soil, including the Men’s and Women’s Rugby World Cup, and culminating in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We have an ambitious new Strategic Vision and we need the best players on our team to help us deliver real results for the sporting sector and all Australians.

Are you up for the challenge?

About the team - Performance Services is a multi-disciplinary team of specialists who deliver performance services to support the AIS campus’ high performance activities that include NSO elite, pre-elite and development camps and intensive rehabilitation programs. The Team oversees the management and quality assurance of the AIS High Performance Centre facilities dedicated to supporting the provision of performance services to Australia’s national sporting network.

Services from within the multi-disciplinary team can incorporate a range of elements from Nutrition, Food Services to Strength & Conditioning and Biomechanics. The Performance Services Team works with NSOs in the planning and delivery of the best possible camp environment that will optimise the performance outcomes NSOs wish to achieve. These outcomes are discussed, developed and customised and then agreed with the NSO prior to confirming a camp schedule to target the outcomes the sport is wanting. Complementary themes can be built into camp plans to enhance specific performance outcomes, including adaptation and environmental support, pre-departure and competition strategies.

About the role - Within the Performance Services team, you will play a key role in the implementation and delivery of biomechanics in accordance with the branch strategy. As an experienced Biomechanist, you will apply your expertise across a diverse range of athletes and sports. As a professional who seeks to influence change and lead improved practice, you’ll contribute to the way athletes are empowered through education and support processes that enable them to traverse the competing demands of high performance sport. You will plan, design and deliver biomechanics services and projects in collaboration with other Performance Support staff.

About you -

  • PhD in Biomechanics or related field, or equivalent experience: e.g. sport science, engineering, human movement studies.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide high quality biomechanical support for elite athletes and high performance sport coaches to achieve sporting success.
  • Demonstrated experience of greater than 10 years to apply research evidence, outcomes and knowledge to enhance service delivery.
  • Accredited as an Exercise Scientist with Exercise and Sports Science Australia

This position is available as an ongoing or fixed-term opportunity.
