About the team - Performance Services is a specialised multi-disciplinary team of specialists who deliver performance services to support the AIS campus’ based high performance activities that include NSO elite, pre-elite and development and intensive rehabilitation camps. The Team oversees the management and quality assurance of the AIS High Performance Centre facilities dedicated to supporting the provision of performance services to Australia’s national sporting network. Services from within the multi-disciplinary team can incorporate a?range of elements?from Nutrition, Food Services and Recovery to Strength & Conditioning and?Biomechanics. The Performance Services Team works with NSO’s in the planning and delivery of the best possible camp and/or campus daily training environment that will optimise the performance outcomes NSO’s are wishing to achieve. These outcomes are discussed, developed, customised?and agreed with the NSO prior to?delivery in a camp and/or campus daily training environment schedule to target the agreed outcomes.

About the role -

This position will deliver high-level psychology support in a multi-disciplinary team environment to designated long and short stay camps and campus associated activity. The role has elements of work with residential programs based on the AIS Campus and will also provide support to identified priority projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team across AIS Performance. 

This includes: 

  • Undertake a lead role in project delivery of sport psychology to the AIS long and short stay sport programs where agreed and prioritised. 
  • Contribute to the Athlete Rehabilitation Centre’s multidisciplinary team and deliver solutions to address complex health related performance impairments  
  • Support the AIS Clinical Services, acting as a point of referral point medical situations deemed necessary by AIS Clinical staff. 
  • Support, in collaboration with the AIS Athlete Psychologist, the AIS obligations in providing duty of care support for residential long stay athletes (Centre of Excellence programs) including monitoring onsite at-risk athletes and consider and recommend treatment options where required. 
  • Work closely with other branches and areas of the AIS (Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement (AW&E) and Performance Support Team) to ensure wellbeing is optimal. 
  • Identify any issues and/or system-wide implications and propose solutions 
  • Identify gaps and opportunities to enhance the HP system psychology support service, with internal and external partners. 

About you -

We are looking for a self-motivated, driven and collaborative individual with excellent interpersonal skills who demonstrates initiative to engage with both internal team members and external sports to optimise the performance solutions offered on the AIS campus. 

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience in Sport Psychology. 
  • AHPRA Registration as a psychologist. Sport & Exercise endorsement is desirable. Eligibility to undertake AHPRA registrar program for endorsement in Sport & Exercise psychology is essential. 
  • Two or more years of sports psychology servicing along with counselling or clinical practice experience. 
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in elite sport psychology practice.  
  • Demonstrated high level strategic and analytic skills 
  • Strong communication skills (including interpersonal, negotiation, influencing and representation) and a proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships both internally and externally with a diverse range of stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work flexibly to manage ambiguous or conflicting situations with discretion and tact.
