Canterbury College is a high-performing, award-winning Anglican ELC to 12 school, serving the dynamic growth corridor of Logan, northern Gold Coast, the Scenic Rim and southern Brisbane.

We are committed to promoting water safety and providing high-quality swim instruction to people of all ages. Our Learn to Swim program is designed to teach fundamental water skills, foster confidence, and instil a lifelong love for swimming. We are now seeking a dedicated and experienced Learn to Swim Coordinator to oversee and grow our Aquatics Program.

Your Role:

As the Learn to Swim Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing our vibrant aquatics team. You will be responsible for overseeing our Tiny Taipans Learn to Swim School, guiding program development, operations, staffing, and long-term strategy with a focus on maximising participation and driving revenue growth. You’ll also support the broader operations of the Canterbury Taipans Swim Club and our Aquatic Facility.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Learn to Swim program, including scheduling classes, organising instructors, rostering and ensuring the smooth delivery of lessons.
  • Manage, oversee and improve engaging and high-quality swimming lessons that equip students with life skills.
  • Supervise and mentor Learn to Swim Instructors and Pool Lifeguards, fostering a culture of growth and excellence.
  • Update Learn to Swim program as required by industry standards ensuring lesson plans are age-appropriate, engaging, and in line with water safety standards.
  • Ensure all programs are executed to the highest standards and aligned with school values. 
  • Assess and allocate students to correct classes.
  • Ensure maintenance of current assessments and attendances for all students.
  • Manage enrolments including liaising with parents and responding to enquiries in an efficient manner.
  • Track and order stock, inventory, merchandise, apparel and equipment.
  • Induction, safety and compliance training for all new coaches, Lifeguards and instructors, ensuring all staff remain current and up to date with the necessary qualifications for their position.
  • Develop strategies for promotion of the Learn to Swim School and recruitment of new students. 
  • Monitor turnover, profitability and margins of the Learn to Swim Program.
  • Ensure written communications, including website material, MyCC content, brochures are updated and republished as required.
  • Ensure adherence to all Risk Management, WHS, and Student Welfare policies and processes.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with parents, staff, coaches, and the broader community.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for participants and parents, handling inquiries, feedback, and resolving any issues promptly.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience as a Learn to Swim Instructor with a genuine passion for swimming and water safety. 
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. 
  • Experience in people management and rostering.
  • Strong level of administrative skills.
  • Willingness to embrace new ideas and technologies to enhance student engagement and participation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents. 
  • Proven ability to conduct oneself in a way which develops personal respect, respect for the College and the teaching profession. 
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team, with a focus on continuous improvement and student success.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Have a current Positive Notice working with children Blue Card, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Current AUSTSWIM qualifications
  • Current First Aid and CPR qualifications
  • Pool Lifeguard qualifications (preferred)
