We’re seeking a dynamic Head Coach (Swimming) to manage our competitive squad swimming program, fostering skill development, teamwork, and excellence. If you’re driven to inspire swimmers of all levels and contribute to the success of our team, we’d love to hear from you!

U@MQ Limited is seeking a Head Coach (Swimming) to join the Macquarie University Sports and Aquatics Centre (MUSAC) team.

Reporting to the Aquatic Programs Manager, the head coach (swimming) will be responsible for managing and coordinating the squad swimming program providing direction to swimming participants and squad coaches including instruction in advanced stroke techniques and skills development, creating a positive learning environment for all participants that embodies best practices and training methodologies.

This is a fixed-term 12 month role (parental leave cover) until 18 January 2026.

Duties include:

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of MUSAC’s Swimming Squad program, including recruitment, induction, rostering and other operational requirements to ensure the program runs efficiently and effectively and meets all service needs.
  • Develop and implement seasonal training plans that lead to the development and progression of all swimmers within the program, including stroke technique and style, providing ongoing instruction and direction to help improve practice, and reviewing and adapting training plans as required.
  • Working with the Aquatics Manager, to ensure the financial and operational performance of the swimming squad program is sustainable, including tracking budget and managing KPIs to achieve targets.
  • Provide leadership and ongoing direction and instruction to the squad coaching team to ensure cohesiveness, a culture of accountability and identify development, training and mentoring opportunities aligned to industry best practices.
  • Proactively monitor adherence to all relevant regulations governing the safe operation of the squad programs.
  • Develop an annual competition calendar for MUSAC squad swimmers in all levels of the program.
  • Promote the Macquarie University (MQU) Swimming Club to encourage members to participate in external competitions.
  • Provide regular communication to swimming club members regarding upcoming events and entry deadlines.
  • Attend and lead at MQU Swimming Club races, including internal and external competitions.
  • Manage planned rosters and actual hours worked against program delivery in line with staff budget, ensuring staff are paid correctly.
  • Comply with relevant EEO and WHS regulations.
  • Perform any other duties as required and appropriate for this classification.

Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre (MUSAC) is a multi-purpose venue. Located at Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde, our facility includes a 6-lane heated indoor pool, and an 8-lane outdoor heated Olympic-sized swimming pool. The coaching team provides coaching and direction in best practice and techniques for competitive swimmers of all ages.

ABOUT YOU

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability in building, leading and managing a successful and effective competitive swimming squad program, including overseeing the operational and financial requirements of the program.
  • Demonstrated ability in implementing training programs that focus on stroke techniques, skills development and style.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and leading a team of coaches and driving an inclusive culture aligned to industry best practice.
  • Proven ability in building effective relationships and a positive rapport with a variety of internal and external stakeholders from a diverse range of ages, abilities, cultures and needs.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to adapt to meet objectives in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and motivational skills, effectively inspiring both individuals and teams to achieve their full potential.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with coaches, swimmers and parents, with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven conflict management skills with the ability to resolve issues in a timely and respectful manner.

In addition, you should meet the following selection criteria:

  • Hold SCTA Development Coach certification or higher
  • Proven experience in coaching with a proven track record managing a team of State/National Age and Open level athletes.
  • Work hours will vary throughout the competition season. Must be available to work on a rotating roster seven (7) days per week.

This role requires a valid NSW Working with Children Check, current First Aid and CPR certificates.
