Sydney University Rugby is on the hunt for passionate, committed, and talented volunteer coaches to lead our youth teams at the 2025 State Championships. This is your chance to make a real impact on the next generation of rugby players and contribute to the future of the game.

Why Volunteer as a State Championship Coach?

Being a coach in the State Championship program is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to:

  • Develop Future Rugby Stars: Shape and guide players aged 12–16 as they progress in their rugby journey.
  • Enhance Your Coaching Skills: Gain experience working with a team in a competitive, high-performance environment.
  • Give Back to the Game: Contribute to Sydney Uni Rugby’s legacy and help grow the game at a grassroots level.
  • Be Part of a Team: Work alongside dedicated Village Club coaches and parent volunteers.

Your Role as a Coach

As a volunteer coach, you’ll play a key role in leading a State Championship team, including:

1. Player Selection

  • Attend trials in April 2025 to select the best players for your team.

2. Training Sessions

  • Lead weekly training sessions (about 1.5 hours) from April through to the June long weekend.
    • Session will likely take place on Monday evenings, but flexibility is offered based on your availability and team needs.

3. Championship Weekend

  • Attend and coach your team at the three-day State Championship event over the June long weekend.

You’ll be supported by a team of local Village Club coaches and parent volunteers, ensuring you have the resources needed to focus on tactics, skill development, and player growth.

  • Have a passion for rugby and a commitment to growing the game.
  • Understand the spirit and history of Sydney University Rugby.
  • Are eager to contribute their expertise to the next generation of players.
  • Hold (or are willing to obtain) the following accreditations: Working with Children Check and Smart Rugby

Whether you’re an ex-player, an experienced coach, or simply someone who loves the game and wants to give back, we’d love to hear from you.

Time Commitment

The role requires a commitment of about 9 weeks, including:

  • April player selection.
  • Weekly training sessions from April to June.
  • Attendance at the June long weekend State Championship event.
