AusCycling is the nation’s peak riding and cycling body, representing more than 5 million Australians who ride bikes. Formed in 2020 from 19 state, territory, and national bodies, AusCycling is responsible for programs, projects and initiatives that encompass BMX, Track, Mountain Bike, Road, Para and recreational.
We help school kids learn to ride, we stage more than 500 events each year, we nurture clubs and create pathways, and we are responsible for the training, welfare, and performance of Australia’s Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Tour athletes.

Position Purpose
Design and lead the execution of the Data and Insights strategy for the AC Performance pillar to benefit 1) Performance outcomes in the biggest bike competitions on the planet, 2) Strategic and governance decisions and, 3) Talent identification and development.
The role has significant responsibility for collaborating, negotiating and influencing with key stakeholders, to lead the transformation of data and insights across AC’s ecosystem.
The Director of Data and Insights will provide day-to-day leadership of data facing staff in the Performance pillar of cycling which may include, but is not limited to data scientists, data engineers and sport scientists, and ensures strong collaboration between the coaches and Data and Insights staff in particular.
Responsibilities
- A member of the AusCycling (AC) Performance Senior Leadership Team.
- Lead the development and implementation of a Performance Data Strategy that provides innovative application of data insights, digital technology and alternative business models to deliver best outcomes at the Los Angeles 2028, the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and beyond. In doing so, consider AC’s current and future data and insights needs and opportunities.
- Build, develop and effectively manage AC Performance data team staff and resources in a manner that meets requirements and optimises outcomes, not limited to management of the data and insights budget, staff performance and development, internal and external reporting.
- Identify emerging issues, risks and opportunities and provide timely relevant and authoritative information to the Performance Senior Leadership Team to facilitate informed decision making
- Challenge existing practices and develop innovative solutions to meet the continually changing needs of National, Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games team needs as well as underpinning pathway programs.
- Collaborate closely with Business Operations to ensure alignment and integration of systems and platforms where it results in operational efficiency and enhancement.
- Work with relevant AC system stakeholders to set up data driven and evidence-informed talent identification, development and monitoring structures for AC’s Athlete Pathway.
- Make decisions around data and insights needs, not exclusive to hardware and software.
- Lead data and insights facing partnerships, including but not limited to AIS, SASI Centre for Aerodynamics, High Performance Network (SIS/SAS), MIT and other key stakeholders.
- Be the central point and hold responsibility for the portfolio of innovation and research within the AC Performance pillar.
