ABOUT THE ROLE
The Head Coach of the National U20 Team will (a) act as a key ambassador for Football Australia and football in Australia (b) select, monitor, prepare and improve the best Youth Women’s Australian players for the team to succeed at the AFC U-20 Women's Championships and FIFA U-20 Women’s Tournaments.
To provide advice to the Football Australia’s Head of National Teams, the Matildas Head Coach, and the National Technical Director in respect of technical matters generally.
To provide expertise as a coach in the implementation of Football Australia’s National Football Development Plan as requested by the Head of National Teams, General Manager - Women’s National Teams and Technical Director.
Please note that this role is fixed term until Thursday 31st December 2026.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead as the Head Coach of U20 in all aspects of coaching the athletes.
- Collaborate with the Head of National Teams on the staff required for the program.
- Provide direction, support, and advice to the team’s Technical & Support Staff on all on-field and off field matters. Manage staff within the program to ensure all are completing roles and responsibilities & set workflow.
- Work with Team staff to ensure the Team has the best possible coaching, medical, conditioning, wellbeing and other support.
- Implement strategic technical, tactical, physical, mental and cultural requests from Head Coach of Matildas or National Technical Director
- Potential for additional programs, including Future Matildas.
- Develop and implement a team schedule that will allow for the highest performance at AFC Qualifiers, AFC Championships and FIFA World Cups where applicable.
- Conduct player Individual Program Plans (IPP development) regularly
- Lead the off-field Wellbeing program under the guidance from the lead of Performance Support to National Teams.
- Attend Youth-League Matches, NYC, Elite Games and NPL Games for player TID and monitoring across the entire Women’s National teams.
- Monitor the playing, fitness, availability, progress and well-being of potential Young Matildas players based in Australia and abroad.
- Monitor budgets in collaboration with the U20 Program/Team Managers.
- Consult with the National Technical Director, in relation to the technical direction and development of Women’s Football in Australia.
- Provide support to other departments within Football Australia as reasonably requested. This will require your input in Coach Education and Game Development.
- Provide support to other National Teams as requested.

ABOUT YOU
Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
Essential
- Experience as Coach at either a Club, Member Fed or other Federation
- Experience working with World Class Athletes
- Experience playing at an elite level
- High level of tactical knowledge.
Desirable
- Experience as a Head Coach at either a Club, Member Fed or other Federation
- Experience playing for a National Team
