Description

Develop a national strategy to lead, direct and deliver performance resilience & rehabilitation services.

  • Reduce playing and training time injury time loss through prevention and rehabilitation programs
  • Lead, develop, direct and implement strategies to improve the availability and capacity of Australian rugby players
  • Oversee rehabilitation programs and processes within the Rugby Australia network both directly (case leader) and indirectly (program support)
  • Contribute strongly to the broader development and expertise of sports medicine and physiotherapy within rugby

Outcome Responsibilities

  • Implement and administer National Screening, together with relevant program staff
  • Provide individual interventions through exercise and treatment that should lead to better player availability
  • Identify system wide patterns of injury, regions of concern and proactively develop interventions
  • Case lead and direct successful rehabilitation outcomes for selected players and continue to maintain contact for at least 6 weeks after returning to play
  • Support program physios during selected player rehabilitation cases
  • Lead the creation of a Center of Excellence for Rehabilitation

Capabilities, Experience & Qualification Requirements

Capabilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of the rehabilitation process from initial diagnosis through to return to play
  • Ability to interact and liaise effectively with an array of professionals including specialists, athletic performance and coaching staff
  • Excellent communication that keeps the affected players and staff informed in a timely manner
  • Capacity to utilise data effectively to monitor progress
  • Excellent musculoskeletal assessment and treatment techniques
  • Highly motivated with ability to work under own direction to achieve performance targets
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team within a high-performance environment
  • Proactive, flexible performance orientated approach
  • Collaborative communication skills with ability to oversee effective and efficient information flow between different high-performance multidisciplinary teams
  • Effective and efficient organisational skills
  • IT and computer literate and competent
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain appropriate medical confidentiality
  • Ability to analyse complex medical problems and develop bespoke solutions
  • Interstate travel will be required
  • National camp attendance will be required
  • International travel may be required occasionally
  • Weekend work will be required
  • After hours work will be required

Experience

  • Proven experience in the use of screening to identify and subsequently implement interventions
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience successfully rehabilitating a variety of long-term injuries
  • Minimum of 8 years as a practicing physiotherapist in a high-performance contact sport

Qualification Requirements

Required

  • Tertiary qualification in physiotherapy
  • APA sports physiotherapy title
  • Current physiotherapy registration
  • Current combined civil liability professional indemnity, public liability and product liability insurance

Desired

  • Masters (sports physiotherapy)
  • Level 3 sports physiotherapy course
