Blind Sports Australia (BSA) is the national sporting organisation for blind and vision impaired sport. BSA helps create pathways and opportunities for people to participate in blind sport from grassroots community level, right up to elite competition at the national and international level.

With blind football and goalball set to make their Paralympic debut at LA2028, this is a unique and pivotal opportunity to drive success on the global stage.

BSA has established a HP Business Unit to deliver best-practice high-performance planning and operations. We are now seeking an exceptional leader to build and implement a world-class performance program to guide our Goalball and Blind Football athletes to podium success on the international stage.

About the role

The High Performance Director (HPD) will lead the strategic and operational delivery of high performance programs for goalball and blind football, driving sustainable success for athletes and coaches. Reporting to the CEO, the HPD will play a key role in fostering a supportive and high performance environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and implementation of BSA’s High Performance Strategy.
  • Collaborate with HP staff, including coaches and performance teams, to implement integrated high-performance plans aligned with the HP Strategy.
  • Oversee the effective delivery of world-class daily training and competition environments.
  • Cultivate a positive culture that promotes high performance while ensuring the wellbeing of athletes and staff.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, including the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Paralympics Australia (PA), and the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA).
  • Lead and manage high-performance staff and oversee budget allocation to deliver on strategic objectives.
  • Ensure strong governance practices, embedding clear policies, structures, and process to support transparency and excellence.

About you

Ideally, we are looking for a values-driven leader with the following traits and experience:

  • An exceptional leader with the ability to drive success managing high performance teams in dynamic environments.
  • A strong understanding of the Australian HP sport system and international sporting landscape.
  • Experience working with athletes with disabilities in a sporting environment.
  • A track record for building trust-based relationships with the ability to influence and inspire diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in the management and/or administration of HP sport programs at the national or international level.
  • Experience in managing budgets and overseeing financial administration of a team/unit.
  • A genuine passion for empowering people and fostering an environment where athletes and staff can thrive.

Position location

Melbourne location preferred, with the option for remote or home-based work.
