About Australian Athletics (Formerly known as Athletics Australia)
Australian Athletics (AA) is the governing body for Athletics in this country. It is a National Sporting Organisation whose major partner is the Australian Sports Commission. AA is responsible for all athletics activity, including high performance, participation, coaching, officiating, juniors, para-athletics, domestic and international competition. Athletics Australia has a critical role in leading, fostering and encouraging participation in athletics in Australia and promoting excellence in performance.
Heading towards the 2032 Brisbane Olympics & Paralympics, it is an exciting time to join our High Performance (HP) Team, we are currently seeking to recruit a Head of Operations and Performance Environment.
About the Role
The Head of Operations and Performance Environment is responsible for developing efficient and innovative operations and processes that support all Australian Athletics’ high performance environments, both domestically and internationally. Working closely with Australian Athletics’ high performance partnerships, including the SIS/SAS and our Games partners, the role will ensure our coaches and athletes have the best training, preparation and competition environments.
Your core duties will include:
- Manage the Operations team and relevant functions including but not limited to:
- High Performance department communications
- High Performance department reporting
- Manage the Performance Environment and staff.
- Support the General Manager- High Performance to establish and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders.
- Lead High Performance infrastructure projects and partnerships in consultations with the NIN, Member Associations and others as requested.
What we are looking for:
An innovative and creative leader with knowledge of the Australian High Performance sporting landscape. You are a highly effective communicator, who has the ability to build and foster relationships, a continuous learner and motivated by building partnerships that partnerships that support performance. You have a passion for Athletics, understand coaches, how they think and the questions they ask, and are driven to systematically support them to achieve success with our Australian athletes.
Ideally you will have:
- Strong understanding of high performance athlete needs and programs.
- Knowledge of the current trends in international level athletics in the areas of coaching, sports science and sports medicine.
- Previous team leadership and staff management experience.
- Strong understanding of the structure and dynamics of Australian sport, including the interrelationships at local, state, and national levels.
- Ability to create a safe, supportive environment that fosters ongoing mutual respect and trust.
- Ability to operate with integrity and maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- A keen commitment to clean sport and abiding by AA's National Integrity Framework suite of policies including the Australian National Anti-doping Policy, Safeguarding Children and Young Persons Policy, and Code of Conduct.
- Hold and maintain a valid Working with Children Check and (or ability to hold) Police Check.
