Table Tennis Australia Ltd. (TTA) is the peak national body responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of table tennis in Australia. As an Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games sport, the organisation offers an attractive opportunity for a professional sports administrator to take their career to the next level.
The main objectives of TTA include:
- To promote, advance and administer the sport of table tennis throughout Australia.
- To affiliate and collaborate with multiple key external stakeholders including Sport Australia, the Australian Institute of Sport, Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia, Commonwealth Games Australia, International Table Tennis Federation, and ITTF-Oceania in pursuit of the objectives of the organisation.
- To grow the participation base of table tennis through developing and implementing innovative and fully inclusive programs and strategies.
- To implement national tournaments and championships.
- To source and deliver on funding agreements and commercial arrangements, including sponsorship and marketing opportunities to further the objectives of the organisation.
- To formulate or adopt and implement appropriate policies in a proactive fashion to ensure compliance obligations are adhered to.
- To represent the interests of members and of table tennis generally in any appropriate forum.
AUSTRALIA - CHINA COMMUNITY CONNECT OFFICER
TTA is seeking the services of a highly skilled and passionate team player for the position of Australia - China Community Connect Officer. The role will play a crucial role in strengthening the relationship between TTA and the Chinese Table Tennis Association, and the high population of table tennis players in Australia from a Chinese background.
TTA has recently secured funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to deliver on their aim of strengthening engagement between Australia and China. Over the duration of this fixed-term contract, the Australia - China Community Connect Officer will oversee this project to ensure TTA meets the criteria to be able to deliver on the objectives of the TTA Community Connect grant program. The role will also work collaboratively with DFAT, State and Territory Associations, local clubs/associations in every State/Territory and other key stakeholders.

A background in table tennis is not essential, however prior experience in sports administration or general administration will be highly regarded.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Overall coordination of the TTA Community Connect project.
- Strengthening Australia’s relationship with the Chinese Table Tennis Association while internationally showcasing Australian sporting excellence and values.
- Enhancement of Australia’s competitive level Table Tennis players through Player Connect training opportunities, people-to-people and institutional links formed through these training exchanges.
- Utilise local Table Tennis Clubs in Australia as natural convening points for the Australian Chinese community, enhance the club’s ability to connect the Australian Chinese community and Chinese international students to Australian society through sport.
- Development of relevant resources for clubs more broadly across Australia to access, aimed at encouraging community connection through sport.
- Build a sense of community, belonging and integration for the Chinese-Australian community through identifying and connecting Chinese-Australians to local table tennis clubs.
- Showcase through communications products the players from this program of work who participate in TTA’s pathway and talent identification processes to showcase the program and player development.
- Showcase Australia’s sporting excellence and values through its table tennis talents and athletes achievements in a storytelling approach.
- Establish and develop relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, State and Territory Associations, clubs/associations and coaches.
- Ensuring Child Safe environments are provided across all programs.
- Adherence to all TTA policies and procedures.
- Any other duties as required by the CEO.

HOURS AND TERM
This is a full-time position (38 hours per week), over a fixed 2-year term. Given the nature of this role and the sports industry in general, evenings and weekend work may be required.
REMUNERATION
Negotiated based on skills and experience.
LOCATION
This role will preferably be based at the TTA National Office in Melbourne. Working from another State or Territory may be considered for the right candidate.
This role may require occasional interstate travel.
SELECTION CRITERIA
In addition to demonstrating relevant experience across the Responsibilities identified in this Position Description, candidates applying for role will require a broad range of personal and professional skills, including:
QUALIFICATIONS/ACCREDITATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- Tertiary qualifications in project management, sports management, sport and recreation or a related field, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Working with children check or be willing to obtain.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Mandatory - Fluent in Chinese/Mandarin. Preferable – Fluent in Chinese/Cantonese
- Ability to initiate, plan, coordinate and drive the implementation of agreed KPI’s.
- Ability to develop and implement national level program plans.
- Demonstrated evidence of understanding participation and development trends and an ability to create and implement innovative and inclusive strategies to grow participation and membership.
- Demonstrated marketing skills with the ability to use technology to drive participation outcomes.
- Experience using CRM’s and/or design software (desirable but not essential).
- An ability to engage all facets of the community, with a specific focus on the Chinese-Australian community.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including research, report writing and presentations.
- Demonstrated financial acumen and a proven ability to maximise limited resources.
- Experience in working with sporting clubs/associations and/or the not-for-profit sector.
- Experience in working with volunteers at club/association and State/Territory level.
- Proven negotiation, facilitation and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to prioritise and organise individual workload to achieve outcomes, on time and within budget.
