The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) is the peak high-performance sporting organisation in Western Australia. WAIS has a proud history of Olympic, Paralympic and World Champions who have accomplished amazing achievements within sport and in life. WAIS enables and supports WA athletes to achieve success on a national and international level.
WAIS is seeking an experienced Head Coach for our Swimming program to deliver a high-performance daily training environment with a focus on developing athletes for senior national team selection, with potential to podium at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Please note, this role has a maximum term until December 2028 with the potential to extend.
The successful candidate will exemplify a Win Well ethos and champion safe, high-performing environments. You will work closely with WAIS performance support disciplines and proactively collaborate with Swimming Australia to ensure alignment with program objectives.

Role Overview:
In this role your key areas of responsibility include:
- Athlete performance and wellbeing
- Provide leadership and empower team members
- Deliver on Sport Program Objectives
- Developing and maintaining meaningful and effective engagement with stakeholders for the program.
About you:
- You are committed to upholding Australia’s High Performance WinWell pledge, putting athlete wellbeing at the forefront of your role.
- You have a Swimming Australia Performance Coach accreditation or international equivalent, First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- You have a minimum of 8 years’ experience providing swimming coaching in a high-performance sporting environment.
- A proven leader who unites teams and successfully develops and empowers swimming athletes to national and international level.
- You understand the challenges that current and aspiring Olympic and Paralympic athletes encounter.
- You have great interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with athletes, parents, colleagues and external stakeholders alike.
- You have an undergraduate qualification in Teaching, Coaching, Sports science, or related field (desirable)
- You are proficient in the use of relevant sport specific performance software.
- You have, or are willing to obtain, a Working with Children Check, National Police Criminal History check and agree to Swimming Australia Integrity checks.
- Applicants need to have the right to work in Australia (such as Australian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid visa with working rights etc) or the eligibility and ability to gain a visa to permit you to work in Australia.
