Description

  • CEO role reporting to Board of Directors, mid-late 2025 target commencement date
  • AFL/VFL system or comparable elite sports experience sought, proven leader
  • Respect Club’s history & community legacy, but position it for a brighter future

Williamstown Football Club (WFC), founded in 1864, is one of Australia’s most historic and respected football clubs, competing in both the VFL and VFLW competitions. Based at DSV Stadium in Williamstown and Head Office in Newport, WFC prides itself on a strong commitment to on-field success, community engagement, and sustainable growth.

We are now recruiting for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with a target commencement date of mid-late 2025. The CEO reports to a passionate and professionally diverse Board of Directors and is charged with leading and delivering on the Club’s strategic, operational, and commercial objectives.

This role requires a dynamic and experienced leader who can drive high performance outcomes both on and off the field. The CEO will be responsible for the Club’s financial management, commercial growth, football operations, people and culture management, facilities development, and community engagement. The successful candidate will be community minded and able to champion the Club’s values and uphold its proud heritage while shaping a strong and ambitious future.

The CEO will be a visible and influential leader, fostering strong and enduring partnerships with members, staff, sponsors, stakeholders, the AFL, volunteers, government, and the broader Hobsons Bay community. This role demands a commitment to excellence, innovation, and inclusivity, ensuring the Club continues to thrive in a competitive and evolving sporting landscape.

We are targeting a proven senior leader with experience from within elite sporting clubs or competitions or community-based organisations. Tertiary qualifications commensurate with a role of this nature are essential, and AFL/VFL system experience or comparable sports exposure would be favourable. Strong commercial and financial acumen managing P&Ls and driving revenue growth, outstanding communication, media and public speaking skills, a long-term relationship building skillset and demonstrated success in leading diverse teams are all essential to succeeding in our organisation.

The Board has appointed TWH Advisory as our advising consultant on this recruitment process. Confidential enquiries regarding the role can be directed to Tom Hutchinson, Managing Director of TWH Advisory, on +613 9523 7906 or tom@twhadvisory.com.
