The Treasurer is a key member of the NSW Water Ski Federation Board of Directors and is responsible for the financial stewardship of the organisation. This volunteer role ensures the Federation maintains sound financial governance, transparency, and accountability in managing its funds and resources. The Treasurer plays a strategic and operational role in supporting the Board to make informed financial decisions that align with the Federation’s mission, compliance obligations, and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight
Monitor and report on the financial position of the Federation, including income, expenditure, cash flow, and budgets.
Lead the development of the annual budget in collaboration with the President and relevant Board members.
Ensure appropriate financial policies, controls, and procedures are in place and adhered to.
Governance & Compliance
Ensure compliance with all statutory financial requirements, including Australian Tax Office, Fair Trading NSW, and ACNC regulations.
Prepare and submit annual financial reports and statements to regulators and members as required.
Ensure insurance, audit, and reporting obligations are met in a timely and accurate manner.
Financial Administration
Oversee the work of the bookkeeper and/or administrative support personnel managing day-to-day accounts.
Review and authorise payments, banking, and reconciliations where required.
Maintain accurate records of financial decisions, invoices, receipts, and grant acquittals.
Strategic Contribution
Provide strategic financial advice to the Board, including risk management and sustainability planning.
Support the Board’s decision-making by providing clear, concise financial reports and commentary.
Stakeholder Communication
Liaise with external stakeholders such as auditors, funding bodies, sponsors, and government departments where financial input is required.
Ensure members are kept informed of the Federation’s financial status, especially during the Annual General Meeting.
Selection Criteria:
Essential:
Demonstrated financial literacy and experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management (e.g. prior role as a Treasurer, finance officer, or accountant).
Understanding of governance and compliance obligations for incorporated associations and not-for-profits.
Strong integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to transparency and accountability.
Desirable:
Qualifications in accounting, finance, or business (or working towards).
