ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you a dynamic and experienced leader ready to make an impact at one of Tasmania’s premier sports and event venues? The UTAS Stadium Venue Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring smooth daily operations, exceptional venue presentation and supporting the delivery of world-class events. Reporting to the General Manager - Northern Venues, you will lead an operational team, oversee the delivery of high-profile events, and cultivate strong stakeholder relationships while upholding safety, risk management and customer service standards.

MAJOR DUTIES
- Oversee the daily operations and delivery of all contracted events, including event and venue setup, venue presentation and risk/safety management
- Manage, and where applicable, oversee the management of the operational elements of all contracted events, including security, ticketing, customer service, food and beverage and digital requirements ensuring adequate resourcing levels, cost effectiveness and exceptional customer service
- Manage and lead the development and implementation of the Venue Security Plan and Security Risk assessments
- Embrace, enhance and introduce new (where required) models within the event delivery and venue operations function that successfully transforms the team and operations, fundamentally changing the way the business unit operates
- Manage day to day stakeholder relationships with hirers, sports partners and service providers, ensuring exceptional customer service and experiences for all
- Ensure proactive communication with hirers, community clubs, local government internal Stadiums Tasmania staff, ensuring alignment to maintain a unified narrative
- In consultation with the General Manager - Northern Venues and the Stadiums Tasmania Executive, develop comprehensive communication plans aligned with the venues’ objectives and brand identity. Identify key messages, target audiences, and communication channels to maximise reach and impact
- Lead the event estimate and event settlement processes for all contracted events, working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure event settlements are achieved within contractual terms
- Drive financial performance through effective budget and expense management
- Assume the role of Venue Manager, Deputy and or Chief Warden as required, in accordance with the organisation’s safety management systems and other applicable organisational policies and procedures
- Lead, manage and develop a team of highly skilled individuals, fostering the ultimate team environment
- Other special projects as directed by the General Manager - Northern Venues
- Work closely with the Risk, Compliance and Safety Officer to implement the Workplace Health and Safety Framework, including Emergency and Risk Management on event days; liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders where required to ensure compliance with health, safety, emergency and risk management standards
- Manage, review and implement non-event day emergency management procedures and work closely with the Risk, Compliance and Safety Officer to manage the incident reporting systems for both event day and non-event day
- Manage the venue’s cleaning, hygiene services and waste contracts, coordinating pre and post event clean, waste collections and undertaking inspections to ensure the venue is well presented prior to events and functions and contractual obligations are being met
- Administration of the Building Management System; including Access Control, Key Security, CCTV, IPTV and Venue Lighting Systems.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
The role will require someone who is both strategic and hands-on with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines at once. The Venue Operations Manager is expected to anticipate the needs of our internal and external customers to realise and capitalise on relationship opportunities; and be an exceptional collaborator and communicator aligned with our organisational values and able to bring internal and external parties together on a positive journey to achieve results.
ESSENTIAL
- Willing to work flexible working hours including weekends, early mornings, and evenings to align perfectly with the demands of a dynamic event venue
- High level of experience in providing optimal customer service outcomes and the ability to develop productive relationships to support the needs of a diverse internal and external stakeholder groups
- Experience in managing or delivering the operations of a major venue or facility at a senior level
- Familiar with large crowd capacities and the intricacies of multiple activations
- Sound understanding of client and customer needs, within the sporting environment
- Ability to interpret and deliver strategic and operational objectives
- Ability to manage the implications of regulatory, compliance and legal requirements applicable to major stadiums, infrastructure industries, and sport and entertainment events
- Tertiary qualifications in applicable areas and demonstration of ongoing professional development
- Constructive and proactive leadership of people and change
- Strong technical and learning agility to apply new concepts and continuously improve
- Project Management experience
DESIRABLE
- A broad understanding of the Tasmanian and Australian sports and major events landscape
- Highly goal-orientated with a strong focus on delivery, structure, organisation, and inclusiveness.
QUALIFICATION AND OR EXPERIENCE
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g Business, Commerce, Management) or equivalent experience
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in Venue management or operations at a senior level
- Current Chief Warden certificate, or willingness to complete
- Satisfactory Working with Vulnerable People Card
- Satisfactory Police Check
- Current Drivers Licence
