Manly Rugby Football Club, established in 1883, is one of Australia’s oldest and most successful rugby clubs, proudly competing in Sydney's premier Shute Shield competition. Key Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading all technical and tactical coaching for the forwards group, with a primary focus on scrum, lineout, kick restart, tackle, and breakdown execution.
  • Designing and delivering structured, pre-planned training sessions that align with the Head Coach’s game model and strategic vision.
  • Monitoring individual and unit performance, providing regular feedback and development plans to enhance player progression.
  • Mentoring Top Squad forwards and supporting the integration of talented players from the Colts and pathway programs.
  • Collaborating closely with the Head Coach, Director of Rugby, and support staff to ensure alignment and consistency across the senior program.
  • Assisting with player recruitment, talent identification, and retention strategies for specialist forward and set piece positions.
  • Playing a key role in match strategy development, including set piece planning, game-day operations, and in-game tactical adjustments.
  • Contributing to match reviews and performance analysis with a focus on forward play effectiveness.
  • Upholding the club’s values-driven culture through strong leadership, professionalism, and commitment to the “One Team, One Village” ethos.
  • Supporting coach education and performance alignment across other grades and Colts where required.
  • Maintaining accurate performance and development records in line with club policy and best practice.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety protocols, injury management processes, and welfare procedures alongside medical and S&C staff.

Essential Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience coaching forwards and/or set piece units at senior or elite level (e.g. Shute Shield, NRC, Premier Colts).
  • Strong technical expertise in scrum, lineout, breakdown, and ability to coach these areas effectively.
  • Minimum Rugby Australia Level 2 Coaching Accreditation (working towards Level 3 desirable).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, growth-oriented coaching style.
  • Proven leadership, organisation, and mentoring ability within a high-performance environment.
  • Commitment to attending all training, matches, meetings, and club events throughout the season.
  • Dedication to fostering a positive, inclusive, and professional team culture.
