The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RYKYC) is looking for a high calibre individual to fill the position of Paddle Sports Operations Manager. The Paddle Sports Operations Manager will report to the Head of Rowing & Paddle Sports.

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is one of the oldest and largest sports clubs in Hong Kong, with a rich, colourful history that spans 170 years of community and competitive sailing and rowing (including paddling). The RHKYC provides training programmes for practitioners of all abilities and ages – both members and non-members – to nurture their development, produce elite athletes capable of competing at the highest levels, and contribute to the growth and popularity of these great pastimes. The Club also organises a full calendar of high-profile local and international race events, helping place Hong Kong firmly on the global sporting map.
Position Summary
The Paddle Sports Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations and logistics for both Outrigger Canoe (OC) & Dragon Boating (DB) at RHKYC. The Operations Manager will drive development in all areas of Paddle Sports at RHKYC working with key stakeholders to design and deliver world class programmes, courses, and events. The role requires exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Primary Duties
- To manage the logistics & facilities associated with the running of OC & DB at RHKYC. This includes managing the flow of people, equipment, and resources as well as the upkeep and maintenance of facilities
- Plan, execute, and evaluate RHKYC OC/DB events including; OC Around The Island Race (ATIR), Sai Kung Coastal Challenge, Kellet Island & Middle Island Cup
- Oversee the design and delivery of all Paddle Sport programmes, courses, and camps for adult and junior athletes at the club
- Attend regular sub-committee and working group meetings. Update members and provide guidance in order to achieve the ultimate goals and objectives of the paddle sports section whilst identifying and resolving any potential areas of conflict
- Manage the repair, maintenance, and spare parts planning of equipment to ensure quality control of all OC/DB inventory
Secondary Duties
- Be actively involved in departmental strategic planning to ensure the growth of Paddle Sports in line with the sections vision
- Ensure strong financial management by supporting with capex planning for boats and other equipment, ensuring target revenues from courses and programmes are met, and operating within the expenditure budget which includes repair, maintenance, and coaching costs
- Foster a collaborative environment and clear communication channels with direct report (Paddle Sport Head Coach) and others both within the team and externally. Provide leadership, direction, and professional development for all Paddle Sports coaching staff when and where necessary.
- Periodically review and update the club’s Paddle Sport safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOP’s), and risk assessments for all RHKYC Paddle Sport facilities, programmes, and events
- Actively develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Marine Department, Hong Kong Jockey Club, Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, Hong Kong China Outrigger Racing Association, and schools.
- Ensure technology such as iCrew is integrated and utilised to improve efficiency and enhance communication
- Participate in coaching when and where necessary
We look for people with:
- 5yrs+ experience in sports management or sports operations
- Preference for experience with water sports, in particular outrigger canoe and dragon boat
- Power boat license PVOCC Level 2 preferred
- Some understanding of boat repair and maintenance
- MS Office including Excel, Powerpoint and Word
