Base Fee: $60,000 per annum (0.5 FTE), paid monthly

Travel Allowance: Daily fee when travelling with national teams (all flights and accommodation arranged and paid by Softball Australia)

Contract term: Commencing TBA, funded until 30 June 2026, with continuation subject to ongoing funding

Reports to: General Manager Game Development

Location: Flexible/remote role - Head Office located in Albert Park, Melbourne

We’re now looking for a National Performance Psychologist to play a leading role in supporting our athletes’ mental performance and wellbeing. You’ll bring expertise in sport psychology, resilience and team culture to help our elite athletes perform at their best on the world stage.

The Role (What You’ll Be Doing):

Softball Australia is seeking a National Performance Psychologist to lead the delivery of high-performance psychology services for the Australian Women’s National Softball Team. This role focuses on optimising athlete mental performance, wellbeing and team culture through evidence-based sport psychology practices.

You’ll play a key role in preparing athletes to thrive in training and major international campaigns, working closely with the National Head Coach, General Manager Game Development, assistant coaches and the wider Performance Support Team. You’ll also collaborate with the National Institute Network (NIN) to ensure consistent, integrated delivery of psychological services across the athlete pathway from development to elite level.

What You'll Bring to the Role

Qualifications:

  • Registered Psychologist with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)
  • Postgraduate qualification (Applied Masters or PhD in Sport Psychology)
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • Current Working with Children Check or equivalent
  • Current Safeguarding Children Certification
  • Current driver’s licence

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience providing psychology services
  • At least 2 years’ experience in high-performance sport
  • Proven success supporting athletes across multiple seasons or campaigns
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver performance psychology and wellbeing services within a National Sporting Organisation
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary sporting environment with coaches and athletes
  • Understanding of issues affecting athletes and coaches in high-performance sport and familiarity with Australian sport systems
  • Experience in psychological formulation, assessment and treatment
  • Experience delivering workshops and educational programs to athletes and staff
  • Strong judgment, confidentiality, initiative and interpersonal skills
